Trigger job turned out SWEET .. worth the effort !!
I shot a high dollar target rifle the other day and it only served to remind me of how awful the trigger pull was on my Talons.
I read the instructions for installing the take-up and over travel screws in the Quick Reference section and decided while I was at it I would polish the sears, pins, and side surfaces of the trigger group.
I used a dremel tool with a felt wheel on it and a liquid polishing compound I found at Wally World for a couple of bucks. I polished all of the contact surfaces of the sears and safety and during reassembly I applied M2M paste to the pins and contact points.
With the screws adjusted and all of those polished surfaces in there I can’t believe the difference !!! It’s not an expensive target trigger by any means but it is one SWEET hunting trigger !!
I am real happy with the way the trigger breaks now 😀

Thanks pulaskius that is what I did and it worked great my trigger is great set it where I wanted it and loctited screws in place! Now I am ready to do some shooting maybe Tonight weather has been perfect this week in Indiana but I have been busy with a big project so need to take some time out for shooting!

I got that from Adam it came with the trigger guard when I bought that 🙂
And on any trigger job you want to just polish up the contact surfaces and never change the angles or amount of material making contact.
That Blue Magic stuff I am using polishes very slowly just on the surface. That combined with a felt wheel just about guarantees you can’t muss it up 😀
I did some on the cleaning I have seen several post by some guys that have been into the Airforce Rifle allot and was told to really watch what you are doing and not get carried away so I did some polishing but just enough to make them smooth works great should have done it a long time ago but needed the time to work on it and I had that tonight! I am like you let me at the Crows they don’t have a chance never did 😡
I do have a question for you I see you have a different safety on your Airforce do you like it better maybe a better feel for the safety?
There ya go congrats !!! No need for a nut just use Loctite 242 Blue “removable” .. get it at Wal-Mart. Coat the threads and let it sit for a few hours 🙂
Comes out to a NICE trigger release huh ! Did you polish all of the contact points on the sears and the sides of the trigger components ?? That really makes a difference 😀

Did mine tonight! tirgger adjustment 9/17/09 turned out great gave it a really nice feel no creep and very little over travel, Takes a little playing around with I did not want to make it really touchy just a nice clean pull worked great! Only thing I wish is there was more material for the pre load through the frame, but there is really little pressure on that area of the set screw so I am guessing it will not be a problem. I was wondering there is room for a 10/32 nut to go on that area if there was a way to hold it to the frame jb weld maybe? I tapped mine for 8/32 just to keep things smaller. Anyone thinking of doing this for a nice trigger it just takes some time to take things apart and drill and tap 2 holes I think it was worth the effort I had quite a bit of travel in my stock trigger before it went off it took care of that really well.

Speaking of scopes I have been eyeballing the Leupold VX3 8.5-25X for my main Talon … it’s about 5 ounces lighter than my Weaver V-16 and while kind of pricey I’d bet it is worth it.
Anyone have a VX III ??

In my humble opinion, 95% of a rifle’s accuracy is a good, smooth trigger. Of course the other 99% is the barrel. The remaining 6% would be a decent scope.

UPDATE: 10/08 – Trigger job done and arrived back. Light as an angels kiss. Equal to any match trigger I ever owned or bought after-market.

Pulaskis – If you havent already, wipe away that excess loctite. It sets by anerobic reaction so any exposed to air will just sit there attracting dirt and getting moved around.

Metal 2 Metal paste … “Moly Lube” … PA probably sells it and I know Macarri does because I got a supply from him last year … his is top quality too ! It’s like a hundred bucks a pound but just one ounce will last you for years 🙂
The trigger shoe is from Tony at Talon Tunes .. it spreads out the pressure of the trigger pull onto a wider area of your finger … really improves the feel of the trigger !
