Q:

TSS barrel / bushings

Ok tonight when I took off my endcap to install the new insert from Don G I looked down inside the shroud and seen the barrel was surrounded by a very tightly packed fiber material…I got the gun secondhand and I dont belive This to be normal ..is it? I gotta feeling im gonna have to tear this thing apart and I hate tinkering something fierce..

Yea, you do now. Wait a while and you will be working on that too LOL

I cant say if venting made a difference as I installed the shroud also…It’s quiet a bit more neighbor friendly now..I’ll try to keep my audience happy but I love hearing just the valve ting !!!

If you keep making that thing more and more quiet I’m afraid I will be very disappointed when you post a vid. we will not hear that classic slo-mo firing sound of your gun.
Boy I’m gonna miss that !!!!
By the way did the venting make a difference with your report ?

Ok I got it out..Looks like a bunch of cotton patches packed tight against the front bushing and extending to the muzzle…I pulled everything out the front and cleaned inside…I vented the front bushing also..total of 5 7/64 holes spaced around the bushing…Thanks for the tips, encouragement and the Quick Refrence section..

I would remove the barrel and vent the front bushing, helps sound level even a bit more.
There is a tutorial somewhere on this forum, maybe a fine knowledgeable
TAG guy can post the link.
I would also recommend a drill press and vise if you have access.
Not too difficult to do.

Yeah, this mod is a lot easier to do than it appears to be… for me it was more effort to work up the nerve to do it than to actually complete the task.

I’d say a drill press is mandatory though… a hand drill could work, but it’d be a pain trying to keep it perfectly straight.

I used a drill press, and a vise-grip to hold the bushing steady and flat while drilling.

If I could go back and do anything differently, I’d do it in steps, starting with a smaller bit and then moving up the size of the bit incrementally until I got the holes to an acceptable width. As it was, I just plowed through in one pass with a single bit… it worked OK, but it wasn’t as precise as it could’ve been.

That is surely “add on”, probably scotchbrite pad or similiar. Most likely can be removed with just a wire hook made with a clothes hanger.
