Q:

TT 9" shroud

Got my TT 9″ shroud from Tony , but it does not line up evenly in-side the barrel shroud of my TalonSS with 12″ barrel . If the set screw from the shroud cap isn’t set tight enough the LCD will blow off the barrel . When the set screw is tighten down , even though you can not see it , it actually is pulling the LCD downward and making my pellet drop 10 inches below my target . Looks like I’ll have to drill and tap a new set screw hole on the top of my barrel shroud to counter act the down pull from the bottom set scew hole that is normally used for the barrel end cap . If any one has a better solution please fell free to advise .

Another thing to do, (suggested by WOK years ago), is to put a thin layer of clear nail polish on the OD of the shroud insert. This will take up any slop. Just let it dry first. Wouldn’t want to mess up you pretty new nail polish job. 😆

To Airgunsoftulsa , no my LCD is not in .22cal. only . Tony’s new shroud covers calibers .177 , .20 , .22 , and .25 as far as I know . Any caliber above
.25 you should contact Tony . I can tell you that Tony’s LCD is very nice and once properly alined , it is Bad ASS .

To Dyotat 100 good question , reason being , I did not know that the bottom barrel end-cap screw was a size 10-32 . Since the manufacture does’nt give out any information on parts or sizes of screws or any kind of measurements at all when you buy their aig guns . Then we must search and do our best to solve our problems since most of us , like myself are not machinist’s and really don’t work in that line of business and we really don’t know what we are looking at as far as machine screws go . As being machine wise , almost totally stupid , I think it worked out best for me by putting in a tad bigger socket set screw on the top barrel shroud to counter act the downward pull of the bottom socket set screw . It certainly solved my alinement problem immediately . Dyotat 100 , you seem to know alot more than I do , so if you could go to my new post in general chat , maybe you could give me some advise on Jerry’s 6-ring slugs .

Thanks: from the birdman

Why didn’t you put a 10-32 like all the rest of the screws?

Thanks to all of you who took an interest in my shroud alinement prolem . However , the cat has been skinned . I fixed the alinement problem by
drilling and tapping a M5-8mm socket set screw on the top of my barrel shroud to counter act the downward pull of the LCD by the bottom socket set screw that is normally used to secure the barrel end-cap . My TalonSS is back on tract , shooting as accurate and deadly as before and more back-yard
friendly , nice and quiet . Tony does make a very nice LCD , Thanks Tony .

Thanks again: From the birdman

Silly question 😯 ❓ Is the shroud the same caliber as your gun? Try putting a pellet through the shroud by itself.

Try this method of shroud alignment;

Step 1. Take the tank off the frame.

Step 2. Secure the frame in a vice or on a gun stand so the frame cannot move easily.

Step 3. Look through the barrel from the tank end with a light source at the other. (a bright sunny day is best. Or a medium light source such as a 40 watt bulb.)

Step 4. This step helps if you have another person helping you. Install the shroud into the frame without tightening the set screw that secures it to the frame. You will probably see the end of the shroud just barely covering the barrel. Kind of like the crescent of the moon. if you use too bright of a light, you will only see a bright reflective light from inside the barrel. Gently snug the set screw but not as to secure the shroud, just take any play out of it.

Step 5. Rotate the shroud slowly until the “crescent” disappears. Snug the set screw.

Step 6. Now shoot the gun for groups.

Step 7. If satisfied, mark the frame/shroud for alignment in the event you need to remove it in the future. I use a dot of silver paint.

Thank you Vrablic/Theodor and you are 100% correct . I do like the TT 9″ shroud , just trying to figure out the best way to correct the alinement problem . Remenber there is always more than one way to skin a cat . All guns may be a little off and since I didn’t send it in for a true barrel fitting I have only myself to blame , not Tony or the product .

Its always best to send gun to who ever is making your shroud so they can make one that fits 100%! There is no one size that fits all.
