Q:

TT Hammer power spring

Hey Gents…If any of you have installed Tony’s Hammer Power Spring please let me know what I can expect from this little mod. Already got the slap hammer mod and the TTQCT on my .25 Condor SS. What can I expect performance-wise shooting cast bullets with this mod (with what I’ve already done to the gun)? I sent Tony an email regarding this last week, but he hasn’t got back to me. (Must be pretty busy).

Your basically right. Smaller hole lower velocity. A heavier spring slamming the valve open harder wont give more velocity. With my gun the power wheel stays at 0/1 as low as it will go and it still opens the valve all the way with the 95 gr hammer and 3 k psi fill. A heavier spring will hit harder but there will be no change in velocity. There is only so much to let out. With higher pressure in the tank that is more pressure holding the tank shut so you need more force to open the valve and let the air out. Thats how you get a shot curve. Fresh tank with 3 kpsi the valve does not fully open so you get a lower shot. Shot two less pressure in the tank the valve opens further higher velocity. Then the gun will peak mine did about 2800 psi. That was the highest velocity shots. Then they would trail off due to the loss of pressure in the tank.

You albrought up a cool point with the inserts. I had my gun set up and could go from 40 fpe shots to 80 fpe shot just by removing the 1 insert in the ttqcth. Thats what makes them so cool. 1 tank 1 set up and all you change is the insert. Works very well. But whn you want more than is obtainable on a stock gun you go with higher pressure or more volume. Since higher pressure is easier thats where most go. Now your using 3600 psi instead of 3000 psi. Now you need a heavier spring to hit the valve harder to open it fully and let the air out. Higher pressure more hammer and hammer spring would be pointless to have if you put the restrictors in.

Hope this answered some questions and wasnt too confusing.

I will profess my lack of knowledge on this subject…but my thought is, how could the gun not have the power wheel adjustment work with the heavier spring inserted if the hole in the TTQCTH is small enough. I mean, in actuality, if the tophat just had a pin-hole in it the velocity would be alot less. Seems like, if the power wheel won’t work with the heavy spring, (for the most part, then other tophat inserts could be manufactured w/ smaller holes and the gun would be much more adjustable, and in-a-pinch, still shoot cast at the higher powers by the simple removal of the insert.

Anyway, thanks to those who have contributed to this thread.

My spring has shipped! this will go with a CF tank, 95 gr heavy hammer, ttqc tophat wide open, not sure about a shim or not under the top hat. will see.

Just might be able to get that 100 fpe in 22 cal. just maybe. Figure I will have to get a 45 gr slug running 1000 fps. Will post how close I get when I get home.

I think calling tony and having him build me a gun would have been cheaper, but then I would have missed out on all the fun.

quote 6.8spc:

JFYI – Tony says, “I would leave the stock spring in for now unless you are going for higher fills.”

He told me the same thing. But I just had to set what it would do. There is no curve with it just a fast declining shot string, especially when you at a heavier hammer. But what a power house. I’m saving carbon fiber bottle & drop down tank adapter right now for it. To try & get a curve at about 100fpe.

Right both my a.f. guns are tuned for 55 fpe.

Will be watching this thread. Am ordering the power spring to make sure i can open the valve all the way on the cf tank i got. Will be interesting to see the difference.

6.8 spc, these guns are a blast to play with. So many different wahs to set them up and easy as hell to work on. Watch out though you can nickle and dime yourself into a $2000 bb gun quickly. But it will be a fun time getting there.

Wow…lotta energy. ‘Be interested is knowing what the (adjustable) minimum pellet velocity is with that spring installed, w/ a lighter pellet…say 31 to 33g? (using only the powerwheel adjustment). Guys who know the answer to this…feel free to chime in at any time. (Condor platform).

Thought you may be interested, I installed the in my again & filled to 3100psi, shot a 49gr hunters supply flat point at 1090fps. It a power house!!!

I put one of the spring in my talador & it was shooting 37gr rat snipers at 1078fps with the pw at 0-1. I think with the spring you much more benefit with one of the carbon fiber tanks with about 3500psi that way you could get a curve. With my set up (I don’t have the carbon fiber tank yet) I get a declining string.

I’m running both of my guns at 60fpe & have had no problem dropping game. I shot a 135lb hog about 3 weeks ago with my talador running the 37gr rat snipers at 900fps. She dropped in her tracks.

I would say the power spring is def worth the few bucks it costs. It’s a simple add on modification.
My Talon-Dor is making the same amount of power that your Condor is and it has no problems pushing 70 trainers with more than enough power to drop coyote or small hogs ( at an ethical range of course).
I run my QCTH wide open with power wheel on #6 when shooting slugs.
When you order up your spring, also get some 7 ring “Black Mamba’s from Tony. You won’t be disappointed!
One hole groups at 50 yards, one inch groups at 100 yards!

I’m new to AG Modding. Right now I am getting 1055fps w/ 31.02 pellets w/ the powerwheel at 8…and that’s about the max. for this SS at this time (3000psi). The groups are tight. I might wanna hunt w/ cast bullets in the near future…I am thinking that the spring might help with this a bit, I was hoping that with all the knowledge about the Condor platform on this board, more people would have chimed in to assist me with the question I asked. Simple question…is the spring worth it to install.

As far as what I am using the gun for now…the mod definitely isn’t “necessary,” nor are the cast bullets, as I got the gun tuned down to 800fps to kill rats (in trees). ‘Lotta fun last night w/ my Sightmark Photon. Wildfire thanks for your response.

I installed one of Tony’s power springs in my Talon-Dor a while back. Hard to say what,if any improvements because I have yet to chrono my rig with the new spring. It packed a huge punch before the spring upgrade with the 70+ gr Black Mamba’s so I’d imagine it picked up some FPE!
Tony WILL get back to you. He always does! Like you said, he’s probably swamped!
