TTTA on Talon SS

My 10 year old .22 Talon SS was in serious need of some upgrades in the form of a little TT TLC. The stock valve was loud an inconsistent, my breech was leaky and loud, so I shot Tony an email and ordered a new tank with a tuned, power and o-ring modded valve, a new fluted breech with hammer slap mod and 90 durometer o-rings, and a custom brass hammer to breath new life into my stock Talon SS.

As Tony was getting my order finished, he announced his new Talon Tunes Tank Adapter. Needless to say, I quickly shot Tony another email and asked him to add the TTTA to my order, gladly waiting an extra week for them to arrive from the anodizer. He assembled the new tank, valve, and TTTA and shipped me my order which arrived last week, and I am now a proud new owner of one of the first production TTTAs in the wild.

Being impatient to try everything out, I put my new tank on and shot it without indexing the tank collar in the frame (a 10 minute job). The fit, finish and machining of the TTTA is impeccable, and the black anodizing is a perfect match for my Talon SS frame. I pumped it up to 2800psi, loaded up a 21gr Kodiak, squeezed the trigger, and giggled out loud at how quiet the new setup was.

I proceeded to do some informal accuracy testing @ 25yrds (my average pesting distance in my yard) to check out the performance of Tony’s custom valve, and I was able to easily place 10 Kodiaks into one ragged hole.

I don’t have a chrony yet to dial everything in, but my first shot while doing some pesting quickly confirmed the performance and accuracy with the new valve by placing a 18.21gr Crow Magnum right between the eyes of a red squirrel @ 35 yrds.

I immediately appreciated the better ergonomics of the TTTA and combined with a WokButt, WokGard 15, and Ergo Suregrip, my shooting position was much more comfortable and relaxed.

Now instead of guessing how much pressure I have left in the tank, the actual pressure is just a glance away on the TTTA. Instead of removing the tank to refill, I extend my bipod legs, rest my Talon SS on the floor and use my floor pump with an Airforce braided steel hose and foster QD fitting.

TTTA Pros: Top notch quality, fit & finish. Anodizing a perfect match. Gauge and foster quick-fill fitting extremely convenient. Improved ergonomics & cheek weld, no more need for high rings or a tri-rail to raise your scope. Additional length of pull perfect for average to tall shooters.

TTTA Cons: Slightly longer length of pull may not be suitable for smaller shooters, especially if combined with the additional length of a WokButt with spacer. [b]Edit: WokButt spacer can be removed to shorten LOP[/b]. In changing your length of pull, you’ll probably have to move your scope to adjust for the change in eye relief and will need to re-zero (minor one-time inconvenience). You’ll have to disassemble your rifle and index your tank collar in your frame (another minor one-time inconvenience).
