Q:

Tuning .25 R3 Matador

Well, at long last I have a .25 Matador on the way. I know there are a few lucky shooters that already have one, and I’ve seen some comments on tuning them for the best consistency and minimizing the stress on the valve. Can you guys give a soon to be new owners some tips on getting the most out of a new .25 Matador? I love my .22, can’t wait to get my hands on the .25!!!

I wouldn’t doubt that! My gun is currently sitting in the local UPS hub about 120 miles from me.

Relax man, – they’re on strike until Monday !!! 😉

No hangover, just had a few beers.

The R2.5 25 cal Longs needed the regulator and hammer spring tension screw turned down. Mine was set to shoot the 45.4 grain JSBs at 1050 fps. I have it set to shoot them at 890 fps. It shoots them equally well at speeds between 880-910. 890 gives me a couple more shots per fill.

Ed has said that the R3 25 cal longs are set at 300 mps = 930 fps.

I get my R3 25 cal long Friday Sept 30th and will find out what speed it shoots the 25.4s at. Once I get the scope mounted I will chrony the gun while I am sighting it in at 50 yards. I got a new Hawke scope and Leapers scope rings in today. Got both of my SCBA tanks filled and bought a bubble level. I am ready!

I plan on doing a lot of testing and trying different speeds. I would bet that I end up setting the R3 to shoot the JSBs at 890 fps also.

I had planned on chasing the UPS truck down early, taking a day off from work and spending the day tuning the gun. It is windy as hell here right now and the national weather service has a wind advisory for the next 2 days. Gusts up to 40 mph. Looks like I won’t get to do any meaninfull testing until Sunday 😥

I will at least put it on a chrony Friday before work.

I will start a new Topic here Friday, just in case anyone is interested on my initial thoughts and impressions of the R3.

Just wait until OldGoat has recovered from his hangover and you will have plenty of tips coming through…….. 😉

Btw: Congratulations, -and please keep us posted on your new experience ….. 😀

Cheers….
