Q:

Tuning the Prod bullpup

With the advice of forum dwellers, I finally have my Prod pup cranked to the max.
I originally planned for my gun to give me 16 shots @17fpe, but since I stumbled upon such great consistency, I’m most likely going to keep the very high power and low shot count.
I’m getting 21fpe with Predator Polymags. 2,900psi fill, 4oring Bstaley mod, TP opened to 7/64, the heaviest spring I could fit, hammer spring at full CCW, throw at 1 1/2 turns CW. The 9th shot in my string dropped 12fps and continued to fall.
Unfortunately I’m only getting 8 shots.. But check out these 8 shots-

Damn I love this little pup..

Haggard 616 , when it comes to magic , there is only one kind of magic that works on everything and that is MOJO MAGIC . If you have any thoughts as
to its power just look at how it has transformed HOOT ( SPANDEX RED ) into the loveable person he has become today . Is there anything else needed
to be said ?

How are you getting it to stick to wall like that?

I said my pup has some magic going on..

IDIOT!!!

Can’t you see his house has been overturned??? Probably by the recent snow storms!

Mr. Hoot..
How’s this for silence…?

In case you forgot your glasses again, that’s over a foot of extra baffle-filled shroud hanging on the end of this pup, 12 baffles to be exact. And I could fire this one next to your ear while your awake and you wouldn’t notice a thing. Thanks to a great member on here who kindly sent me the shroud extension. This solves the noise problem, but it also hampers the maneuverability a bit. I’m working with different options to quiet it down and I’ll keep in mind your venting suggestion.

Why have you not vented your shroud? Do you enjoy loud discharges?

Which brings to mind a joke I read to day:

The History of Words

Have you ever wondered who first uttered the phrase: “You Gotta Be Shittin’ Me?”

Well, it just so happens to have originated through the Father of Our country, way back when George Washington was crossing the Delaware river with his troops.

There were 33 (remember this number) in Washington ‘s boat. It was extremely dark and storming furiously and the water was tossing them about.

Finally, Washington grabbed Corporal Peters (remember this name) and stationed him at the front of the boat with a lantern. He ordered him to keep swinging it, so they could see where they were heading.

Corporal Peters, through driving rain and cold, continued swinging the lantern back and forth, back and forth.

Then a big gust of wind and a wave hit and threw Corporal Peters and his lantern into the Delaware River. Washington and his troops searched for nearly an hour trying to find Corporal Peters, but to no avail. All of them felt terrible, for the Corporal had been one of their favorites.

Sometime later, Washington and his troops landed on the other side, wet and totally exhausted. He rallied the troops and told them that they must go on.

Another hour later, one of his men said, ‘General, I see lights ahead.’ They trudged toward the lights and came upon a huge house.

What they didn’t know was that this was a house of ill repute, hidden in the forest to serve all who came.

General Washington pounded on the door, his men crowding around him.

The door swung open, and much to his surprise stood a beautiful woman.

A huge smile came across her face, to see so many men standing there.

Washington was the first to speak, ‘Madam, I am General George Washington and these are my men.
We are tired, wet, exhausted, and desperately need warmth and comfort.’

Again, the Madam looked at all the men standing there, and with a broad smile on her face, said, ‘Well, General, you have come to the right place.

We can surely give you warmth and comfort. How many men do you have?’

Washington replied, ‘Well, Madam, there are 32 of us without Peters.’

And the Madam said, ‘You gotta be shittin me.’

Hoot:

That is a good one.

And uncle inappropriate Hoot- the picture was taken when the Prod was still only around 15fpe with the stock settings- it has a MarmotMilitia ldc on the end of the shroud.. Maybe you forgot your bifocals. The gun couldn’t be any quieter in that configuration. I bet I could stick the muzzle next to your ear while your sleeping and let a round off and your geriatric ass would keep on snoozin’ Now that it’s at ~21fpe, I’m experimenting with hushing options.

Dear Hazzard….

Bold: Especially if you were pointing the muzzle at said “ear”….

Blue: May I suggest venting the shroud? I did that when my Prod was producing 22 FPS, after mods…

Love the bipod mount solution.

Yea, it balances better than I thought it would. It’s pretty easy to hold steady.
It’d be much better with a 4″ bipod or Atlas where you could adjust the leg angles to be low, the 9″ one on it now works.. But it’s too tall.

Temperature is the first thing that came to mind. Its been in the same room though. I don’t mind it changed a few psi.. as long as it keeps its consistency. I’d like 16 shots @700fps, but I’m not going to mess with it now and chance losing the magic it has going on. My Prod is odd though, it seems its always gotten less shots than the average Prod, even when it was in it stock configuration. But its also been much more consistent that the average Prod. In stock form I was getting 16 shots @ 665fps with a deviation of 3fps, and spread of 12fps.
I bet its the brand new hammer spring I put in it.. maybe its relaxed a bit. I have zero pre load on the spring.. its full CCW. And the throw is only a turn and a half in. Not much could change.. I will check though.

Also the 4- oring bhb mod is temperature sensitive.

Idk but, If you have the settings from the original tune you should check to see if they moved…

Is this bizarre or what? The gun is behaving exactly the same today, just the velocity has dropped? Must be the tune settling in or something? Hot damn, this Prod is a freak of nature when it comes to consistency!

Looks like its time for a P DOUBLE…..
