Q:

Two incredible PCP rifles and not an eye to shoot them with!

Here’s what’s happening. My left eye, my former dominant shooting eye is pretty much history for any kind of clear vision.

Three weeks ago the surgeon following up on my left eye, examined my right eye and found a tear in the retina. He fixed it with a laser, and told me to come back in a week. The next week he found three more spots and had to laser them. Come back in a week he said, so I did. He found two more spots and decided to laser the entire retina in place.

Now I can’t see to drive, all my vision is too blurred to see clearly, much less do any shooting. He said my right eye may take up to a year to get clear vision back. The problem with laser repair inside the eye is that it destroys cells and damages nerves when he literally “burns” a scar to hold the retina in place. There’s never a guarantee you’ll get 100% back after it heals.

In short, I can’t see squat for the foreseeable future. Yes, I can see close up with reading glasses out of my right eye, if I limit my time of use.

Today, UPS will deliver a fully customized Marauder carbine that I ordered many months ago. The machinist/gun builder, a man of good reputation over on the Crosman forum, had some real bad times take place, and I eventually gave up on receiving the rifle. I ended up telling him to forget the money, and try to get his life back in order. Classic woman problems, and the guy was in a dark place in his life.

Well, he recently contacted me, had gotten rid of the woman, got a new job, and, by way of thanks, finished my rifle. He included a bunch of really fine additional mods on it to make up for the difficulties. I’ll post pictures later today when it comes.

I now have $3K worth of PCP rifles and can’t see to shoot either one. The Marauder is repayment for a kindness, and I can’t sell it. You’ll see why later today when I post specs and pictures. There is nothing like it anywhere.

I’m considering selling the Edgun, so someone can at least be using it, and IF my right eye vision clears sufficiently, I’ll probably order a short version next year.

Anyone interested PM me. Remember this has a tiny hairline crack in the paint, as posted earlier with picture.

PS: I’m not posting this elsewhere because I really want a forum member to have first chance at it, not just someone passing through. It cost me $1612. Of course it’s considerably more valuable because I owned it.

I am a new member, and I will post about my experiences with my new 25 cal Marauder. First, I want to make a comment about the eye problems that Hoot is having.

I experienced two detached retinas approximately 20 years ago. I am currently 64 years old. I had nine tears in the right eye, and several in the left eye. I pretty much went blind in the left eye for two months. The right eye wasn’t as bad, but my vision was blurred for several months. Both eyes pretty much cleared up where I could do anything I wanted to do, including shooting, within 3-5 months. My vision now is as good as it’s been in my entire life. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope things will get a lot better.

and crash the computor everytime you look at it

Its’ gona kill the battery in your pace maker though! 😥

All kidding aside, I wonder how far off such technology is??? I watched a show on discovery where they creted Artificial Intelligence by cultivating simple cells from rats, and I forgot which sea animal (perhaps a sea slug) but it was described as having the “simplist” cell structure. Anyway, they cultivated the cells with some sort of electronic mother board and rather than die off the cells prospered and multiplied. The begining of AI cyborgs no doubt.

If they can do this, I would imagine they could replace an eye with a micro camera/computor with not only range finding, but x-ray vision, and a 1 mile max range death ray (the death ray being only available for military contracts of course).

Make sure the bionic eye has a built in range finder and a balistic reticule 😀

Hoot-“The Terminator”! 😀 😈

Hoot that really is not good, may our thoughts make you see again and if that does’nt work we could all chip in for one of those bionic eyes the one where they put the micro prosseser in place of the retina and a nuero surgen hooks the nerve endings to it, you can’t exzactly see cause everything is in schematics, but then once you learn it’ll, probably, help in obtaining those long range shots, I do hope at the least, these words of encouragement may help in getting a full recovery. Best wishes brother and remember you are loved here for your sense of direction that you have given so freely.

Hoot,

Hope things work out for you. Yes, dem opthamologist are pretty amazing now days. I still remember not too long ago when people went in for cataracts. They spent a couple of days in the hospitial and had to wear glasses with thick lenses for the rest of their lives. Now days they get you in and get you out the same day. Hopefully the lazer will do it’s job and the eye can heal.

Keep the faith.

Mark

Faker 😯

Damn that sucks guys 🙁 Hoot I can come over and shoot them for you n we can do some eye medicine 😆 Good luck Knife that can be some bad shit dude. If you gotta get chemo get some eye medicine to get that food in your system! My gramps had lyphoma and my old family friend just died of pancreatic. That shit was horrible. Hey Mike 2 weeks no cigs!!! Ecig fucking rocks!

Holy crap mike, that is bad. 🙁 What kind of cancer (if you don’t mind my asking) My uncle had lymphnode (spelling?) cancer under his arm. It was bad, but he made it through. Cancer is a really horrible thing, but luckily a lot of the treatment and stuff has gotten better.

Please keep us (or at least me) up to date about it. I hope it isn’t a bad treatment.

I need a certain knife maker in tip top shape for when I bust up my knives. 😉

I wish all you people weren’t so old! 😆

Damed Hoot! I feel for ya buddy. Ya got to get better.

They told me I had a fatal cancer three weeks ago. Turned out to be wrong. I do have Cancer. (Bummer) But it is treatable. I was in a very dark place for a few weeks. I know a little of what you are going thru.

I have a feeling you are going to be just fine my friend. Now quit banging you head on that old neighbor of yours and may be you will quit tearing your retina!

Mike

I really hope that you gain 100% of that sight back in your right eye Hoot. It’s a shame that this has happened to out beloved member. Keep the faith my friend, you’ll be ok. Like he said, eye surgery has come far. You’ll be plinking with that Edgun before you know it.

Some of us here survive only to see a post from you Hoot – so that means you have GOT to see… !

later
