Two mods I am curious about
My 25 barrel is shooting JSB Kings very well, just not fast enough for me.
What are my options and costs for another valve or a valve mod, and what can I expect with 43 grain EJ’s or Jerry’s slugs in the 50 grain releam?
Also, my barrel does not sit squarely in the frame. The grub screws push it to the left and up in the tube. Not much but enough to tweak the barrel and change poi about 4 inches at 100 yards when I install my Airhog LDC. I am contemplating drilling and tapping the tube in the bottom and the left side to make it a 8 grub screw affair, so I can adjust this misalignment back to center. I have had the barrel on two differrent frames and experienced the same thing on both.
Has anybody done this to their rifle? I have read that the AirForce rifles used to have just two grub screws and the other two were added to later rifles.

Here is what I found out about the off centered barrel. I loosened the grub screws and rotated the barrel in the frame with the barrel collar in place. It makes it easier to see if your not centered with that barrel collar on.
It had a definate wobble, my first thought was that it was out of round, but when I removed it, I found it was loose bushings, not loose like the screw needed tightening, bout loose in that they were machined with too lage of an ID.
So this is what I did. I put a set screw in at 12,9 and 3 O’clock to work with the screw already in it. Then centered it and put it back in the frame, and it fits perfect now.
One problem I encountered with all this, was that all my set screws were too long, so I drilled and tapped a piece of 1/4 inch metal, put a screw in it with the amount needed to be cut off sticking out the other side, put it in my vice, hacksawed the excess off, rounded the stub and then screwed it out, when the cut off section runs thru the threaded hole in the metal holder I made, it fixes the threads so you can start it in a hole again.
On the valve, I have placed an order with Pablo for one of his canted valves. I will probably put and order in with Blod, thru Pabs for one of his fine valves and then compare the two.
Now to go shooting.

Good work RC, you ought to see some improvement with those corrections.
As far as performance with heavier slugs goes: If the JSBs are not fast enough, the heavies will be too slow. We don’t even sell anything under 60gr (why bother when you can get 43gr cheap?).
That said, it seems to me that setting your tophat to .09-.1 and dialing up the preload ought to get enough power from the stock valve for the 6 ring slugs and maybe the 7’s. Others have done this with good result and they might have polished their valves but as far as I know, they were basically stock. With either of the valves you mentioned, you should be able to shoot any of the slugs including the 9 ring. I expect you’ll get over 115 fpe and be out deer hunting… 😀
