Q:

UH, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THIS CAME FROM?

I was shooting my Cricket .25 last night and I heard the familiar tink, tink, tink of a grub screw dancing across towards the end of the table. I retrieved it and started looking for the hole it came from. Well, I can’t figure it out. Does anyone have a clue? As you can see it is VERY small.

Also note that you do need to cut the 1st stage rod spring, just turn the rod out of the trigger turn buckle to lower the tension. :winkn:

I see your point Greg. When I first looked at the hole and the grub I said to myself, this is kinda of goofy….that screw could go either way and fall out. I’m hoping the VC-3 will hold it in place. If not….plan B.

Actually, I could live with or without this grub screw. I don’t mind the extra bit of 1st stage travel.

You don’t need to install this screw back if you like the trigger position more forwards, it’s a first stage pull travel limiter.

I install a thin brass tube onto this screw to take up some of the first stage travel.
But a better first stage travel adjustment would be to drill and tap out a hole dead center on the rear trigger block angle towards this contact point.

Yeah I’m sure and for two reasons. First if you look at the parts guide pdf you linked me to, the only small grub screw of that particular size is #87. I pulled the rifle apart tonight and low and behold I found the threaded channel at the trigger with no screw in it. I discovered on my own that you screw it in and it slowly presses against the trigger and gradually takes up first stage slack. Kind of a mini-adjuster for first stage travel. It had worked itself out and fell out of the gun. Glad I was able to grab it before it rolled off the table and into one of the cavernous gaps between boards on my deck. I put a small amount of VC-3 on the threads and put it back in. Hopefully it will stay put.

The second things I did was a search on the web and some one else confirmed the screw’s function. Funny, I learned that the Cricket Carbine does not have this screw.

Glad I tore into the gun tonight. I discovered that one of the screws, (#26), that holds the breach and air tube together had completely backed itself out and was rubbing against the trigger link rod. Everything is tightened up and back together. While I was in there I adjusted the second stage creep out of the trigger….gotta do the O-ring thing to it next time…..

Big storms are on the way to NC so I’ll have to wait to see how things shoot…bummer.

You sure? I thought the barrel centering screws were much longer….at least the ones that came with my Crickets were… Really looks like the bleed screw but you’d know it immediately if it was that..
I’m gonna go with mag ball retaining screw …

Barrel centering screw. Used after removing front portion of the picatinny rail.. you then insert this screw to align with the dimple on the barrel.

Thanks for the quick reply. I checked the parts diagram and the only grub screw fitting the dimensions is the grub in the trigger assembly M3x6. The one in the shot looks like 3×6 to me. That’s where I’ll look when I get home.

I don’t want to take apart my Cricket right now, but that screw looks like it can be for one of the following on the gun:

* Breech – It can be either the screw that holds down the barrel or air tube.

* Magazine ball-retaining screw – The screw can be the one used to increase/decrease the ball tension for the cycling of the magazine. The screw is located on the bottom of the action block directly beneath the ball.

* Air tube bleed screw – It can be the screw that is used to tighten the air-bleeder hole (though I doubt it as you would’ve heard hissing while shooting).

* Trigger inlet – There is a very small screw on the trigger shoe inlet (where the shoe goes into) which is used as a trigger pull stop. The inlet is flush with the stock when the stock is installed.
