That applies to a different thing, the ownership of a gun.
It says that handguns are banned, with the exclusion of air arms.
However you CAN own a air pistol, certainly, but it has to be 6fpe.
I’m talking about a lelya, 60cm, 12fpe.
The current lelya 54cm, can be imported but at 6fpe, which is ludicrous.

“The 1997 Firearms Amendment Act made handguns illegal in the UK but Air Weapons were excluded under Section 5 (1) subsection (aba) “a prohibited weapon includes a firearm with a barrel length less than 30cms and an overall length less than 60cms, other than an air weapon, a muzzle loading gun, or a firearm designed as signalling apparatus”.

I have been told 50cm.
Anyway, the lenght should be considered without accessories that can be detatched, it must be a solid piece, and it should not be possible to make shorter without major work (i.e. cutting with power tools).
Even a moderator that is attached with allen bolts is still illegal, as it takes two seconds to remove.
Perhaps someone from UK can shed some light on the relevant law mentioned above?
Lelya is 540 mm length, but there is moderator which is a part of the can which is not supposed to be taken off. You can glue the additional moderator 🙂
If the moderator is detatchable, i think it is still classified as a pistol.

I agree completely, – and yes, – this is not an easy issue to understand. Also the way the UK Court interprets “capable of”…….. 🙄
The latter being the reason for this newly developed industry of anti tampering devices I guess. It is no longer straight forward to up the power on a 12 ft/lbs UK-made gun…… 😥
I’m not sure a std. Lelya will pass even if it becomes long enough unless something is being put in place to prevent power adjustment opportunities…
