Ultimate Quiet Talon SS after a year of testing and modding
I finally have what I’ve been trying to do for a year now. I wanted “THE” ultimate quiet urban backyard pesting rig. Not OK quiet but quiet. As in only hearing a slight hammer thump and the shot on target….I have it now!!
I used Talon SS, Subsonic internal baffle, a 12″ 177 cal barrel, Talontunes modded standard tank, AOA Super Sear, and WOKBUT Strap-on shoulder rest, and AR-15 Grip Adapter with a Hogue grip and a SWFA 10 Super Sniper scope. this scope is so nice. Super crisp and no fuss, I really like it.
The .177 12″ barrel keeps it quiet and gives you a nice flat trajectory. Can’t stress how much that makes for an enjoyable backyard gun. No need for holdover or holdunder calculations that rob you of kills from missed shots or shot never taken as you contemplate the holdover. No more memorizing chairgun trajectory charts. I keep PW on 2 but can increase as needed for bigger grains pellets or more FPS. It seems to love JSB 7.4gr pellets. I filled to 2800 shot 25-30 pellets and it still had 2300 psi in the tank
.177 also doesn’t pass through backstops as easily. And concern for richochets are greatly diminished so thats great for backyard habitats with close-in neighbors.
Here’s a picture of the gun that I took about three weeks ago when it had a .22 barrel in it, it still looks the same with the .177 barrel.
And here are some shots I took this afternoon at 33 yards with a slight breeze. wasn’t taking my time or anything. I didn’t think I would be posting them for show but what the heck, i decided to post a picture

Think subssonic is out of the game for now. Sold his remaining insert components a few week ago.
Is subsonic still selling the baffles?

any way at all to describe it?
ive always been iffy about slap mods, despite the lack of any complaints to confirm my fears. it just seems to me that anything done to date would cause minor inconsistency or impede the energy transfer to the breech. again, ive not heard a single complaint.
besides, with my king-size gtbj shroud, all i hear is the interesting knock of bearing plastic and aluminum. def different than the typical slap.
I have a 2250 that is dead quiet, I wish all airguns were the same.
no more Subsonic work. 🙁
I’m still hoping someone has a set of accurate calipers so I can do the cad work for my printer guy.
I need the .177 barrel size and the inside shroud size.
probably inside the cap size too.

I don’t have a slap mod on the hammer. Seems fine without it but I’d probably buy one of Tony’s standard weight hammer with the slap mod if someone put one up for sale. Not sure if it could make it any quieter than it is but would be good to find out.
I gues I should add that I also have vented the frame and front bushing on this Talon SS.

My quietest setup is the gun in my sig pic. As displayed its a .20 cal with my own insert.
Like you say, its “click – thuk” and the dogs dont even flick an ear.
Everybody that shoots it hardly believes I loaded it til they see the target.
Ive got my own method of hammer-slap mod. No patent or anything, just hard to explain without photos. I broke my wifes digi-camera trying to mount it to my rifle, so might take a while to post any. 😳
