Q:

UNSCIENTIFIC Air Gun Testing……..part 1

LOL! I call this series UNSCIENTIFIC because i use no Scientific/Diagnostic equipment besides my eyes, brain, camera, gun and various test mediums to draw my own conclusions.

In this initial post ( the WHOLE story coming soon), the gun used is my TD257.

The bullets are from the LYMAN 65 gr FP mold that I personally cast. The bullets are pure lead and are just harder than chewed up gum…lol. The bullets have also been converted to a 70.5 gr HP. The bullets weights are as follows….(listed in the pic below).

This post does NOT include the full story as i just shot all the video today. But this is a PRECURSOR of the story to come.

The reply below is not out of anger but out of concern. Take it for no more than just that.

****I ask that a lot of you support my videos as well as many others. I see good videos and post all the time with very little reply’s. I see only a couple people that get a TON of replies to their videos. If you guys are either tired of my videos/stories, I’ve always been open to suggestions and i still am. Videos and stories are hard work and take days to sort through, organize and edit and post. I love this hobby and forum, and I try and do my part to contribute. But 5 replies a post is not enough for all my work and dedication especially when i know a few hundred watch it. If you say nothing more than “COOL”, i at least know you watched or read my post. And know, this is not about a YOUTUBE thing. Its about sharing airgun stories. Just my .02

Chancers,

Not to sound as though i’m braggin but i’m sure RJ and Doug can vouch for their success also, my bullets in the above pic look NO DIFFERENT that when i first cast. The first weekend that i casted, the next day, i took em to my buddy who had 1 year casting on me was like, “YOU MUTHERsucka, your bullets look just as good as mine and i’m way ahead of you on experience”. We both laughed but i let him know that i read ALOT about casting before i got started and it’s something i’ve been preparing for over 20 years….lol! YES, I was supposed to start casting back when i 1st started reloading. But reloading was much more NECESSARY…lol!

The mix for airguns can vary. Many here including myself have had great success with PURE LEAD and with Wheel Weight lead. Only my TD.257 and RJ’s Scandelous seem to prefer PURE vs HARD. Its weird. But for small game up to coyote, I PREFER PURE LEAD. If i were hunting big hogs, i would for sure opt for a little harder mixture.

Also, i have a pretty big balcony on the front of my townhome. That is were i cast and BBQ….lol! Not at the same time though. And no, the lead i use is so damn pure that when you melt it, IT DOES NOT SMOKE AT ALL. But yes, most folks use fans and some even cast indoors inside there garages. I don’t, i stick to outside and if it ever got hella smokey, i would just go back into the house and wait till it stops. Ventilation and wearing PPE is the MOST important part of casting. I have a casting video on youtube if you wanna watch it. Yep, its that easy as long as you have the basic principles down.

RJ PORTER, i’m telling your Mom!

WOK, i’m bringing the 70’s back sir! Hitting various asses in my Pornos while wearing socks (either TUBE socks with the 2 stripes or wearing my black silk Sunday best) is very PIMP sir. You need to get with the times. EVERYBODY does it….lol!

RC, can’t wait till you get your Scandelous back. You have a lot of reporting to do. But no pressure…lol! I will go check out those bullets. Sounds good for your powerhouse. Also, if you get around to it, i can send you some HP’s. Just PM me your addy sir! Like i told RJ, these things in pure lead are literally gonna VAPORIZE anything you 2 hit with the Haleys. For only 915 FPS, these fucking things are seriously impressive and the cavity isnt even that wide.

Tof,

I see that Midway has a 100 grain SWC GC and a 120 semi point. Those would be prime HP candidates if I can launch them fast enough to stablize them.

RC

Can’t wait to see how that baby is going to preform there RC!

Tof,

I do enjoy your video’s, however with my computer set up, it takes so damn long to get thru any video.

And yes I have hi speed satalite internet and change computers every 6 months. I still must be doing something wrong.

And to make it worse, I have been over this thread 5 times and see no link?

I am still wanting to buy that heavy RCBS 257 mold and send it to Eric. I am just still waiting to see how hi a fill level my 257 Haley willopen at when Jack gets done with it.

He is completely tuning it and having his grandson do the actual shooting testing with it, his GS got 3rd at Lasso I believe so were talking a good shot.

RC

Your airgun vids are pretty great, but your PORN vids need better music and please take the socks off

Its not the 70’s anymore 😛

cool !!

Hey Ced,
You SUCK donkey balls, your vids suck, and u wear gay yellow biker clothes with your faggy pack! Ok now that i got that off my chest cry baby. Lmao. U do a great deal for this sport and im very grateful to be able to exchange ideas and knowledge over the phone on a daily basis. If it wasnt for u and all the help i wouldnt have all the badass guns i have now. Thanks for all ur help buddy and keep up the great work

Can’t wait until you post the whole story. I’d like to learn about the differences between the modified hollow point vs hollow point vs the FP bullets. Which one is best suited for hunting? What’s it mean when the modified HP shreds up to pieces (more tissue damage)? Would you use the HP or MHP for head shots (while using the FP for body shots)?

I know just about zip when it comes to casting. But, it must be neat to be self sufficient. Is it difficult to get it right?

For airguns, what is the recommended mix? Or is pure lead the best way to go?

When you cast, how does one avoid inhaling that molten stuff? Do you use a fan to blow the fumes away from you?

KNIFE,

WOW! I’m sooooo sorry bro. That is truly sad news and i can’t even imagine what your going through.

I will try and make this lil video “EXTRA” Special just for you.

GOD Bless you Mike and keep your head up.

I know YOU watch the vids man. I know.

Thank you guys.

MAW, ohhhh, i will. Dont ever think i’ll stop making videos for a multitude of reason. Mainly cause i love seeing guns in action. Got a Blacktailed deer hunt coming up very soon so more video to come. But this time, with a REAL gun…..lol! Stay tuned!

Nate, i understand. But all this long range or short range or small bore or big bore all add up to someone benefiting from it in one way or another. And to set the record straight, i’m actually an AIRGUN guy. I like em all and own em all. I just get into one gun at a time and most folks think i’m all about big bores or my Rapid. Its honestly just not enough times in our lives to film and talk about all the guns we own. We just gotta post on em 1 at a time. And right now, its all about my TalonDor 257. Its really about the most awesome gun i own right now….lol!

RC, thanx man. I’ve really gotten ahold of casting with PURE LEAD bullets. Its used to be not really hard but, it was different then casting with harder lead. Casting with harder lead is almost a no brainer. I got about 1000 lbs of roofers lead coming my way real soon and i think it will be right on time. Also, its amazing how these bullets perform vs even a little bit harder lead. The one bullet that shredded itself was stopped inside of a 2 liter water bottle at 60 yards away travelling ONLY 915 FPS. It did not even penetrate the entire length of a 2 liter bottle (about 12″)

Cedric, I may be one of the Guilty ones, so let me set the record straight.

I am no longer able to get out and do things the way I use to. My wife has a medical condition that will eventually kill her. I have to be with here most of the time. That, and the finances have taken a HUGE hit.
As many of you know, my wife helped in our business a great deal. With her illness, She cannot do anything. No am I able to go into the shop any longer.

The Air Guns are for all intents and purpose, all the pleasure I have today. I have watched many of your vid’s over and over. It is the closest thing I have to actually being able to get away from home, and enjoy the world again.

So Thanks God for You, and Ted! You two keep me from going Crazy!!!

Now, my wife and I think that is one Cute Kid you have there. Your a lucky man! 🙂

Mike

Damn those are good looking bullets Tof.
