Upgraded my V-Strom 650 to a new V-Strom 1000
It was one of those new but previous years models that was to was too good to pass up. That is how I got my 650 and from the same huge dealer. 😉 I am ordering FARKLE’s up already.

I test rode the Honda AT. In fact eight different bikes. If i did more offroad the Africa Twin is good but a bit pricy. 🙂

Oh hell yea, I see, Real nice bikes, I have seven bikes and I pull my 2005 V storm out more than any other bike I own,
Like I have said I have dumped so much money in my bike, There is no way I can sell it, But I do that to all my bikes..
My health has keep me pretty close to home and not doing any big rides,,,
I just turned over 10,000 miles on my 1000 Storm,
The new Honda 1000 twin adventure bike had me at full lust, But I would have to sell five bikes for one bike. Almost sounds good .

V-Strom off-road. These are really maybe 80/20 paved/unpaved bikes at best. They call them Adventure Touring now. I ride about 95/5. It’s hardy a true dirt bike but it can definitely take you to some pretty rough spots. That said it will cruise the interstates for thousands of miles.
Too funny. Needs different tires if he does this a lot.

I have a Polaris 500 Sportsman but don’t use it much. I am about to give it to my son.
My Strom is dual sport and loves gravel. 😉 We have hundreds of miles of fire roads we ride.
If it wasn’t for the gravel roads around my place I’d have a nice bike!
Need to upgrade to bigger atv next year!

I am in the Ozark mountains so straight flat roads are tough to find. That said it cruises at 70 mph (fastest highway speed) at about 1000 lower rpm.
At 6’3″ the monster was a little low in the seat for me.. a Hyper motard could be on next years shopping list though.
How are you finding the 1000cc over the 650? bit better cruising?

My new Canon Rebel T6i 24MP camera – Black Friday Special
I have owned fourteen motorcycles and have maybe 150,000 miles under my belt in forty-five years of riding and they are still as dangerous as heck (I paused as my kids were growing up and did the homebuilt airplane lol) – maybe worse as traffic increases although I stay rural for the most part. These days you have to assume everyone wants to nail you or one will get you. Every driveway or bit of debris on the road is a risk. Always assume no one will stop and will ignore all traffic signals or break a tie rod or have a flat right next to you. An HD (1080P) action camera on the beak of the bike turns on and off with the key recording the crazy cagers and zombies (you can see it in the top photo).
That said about 40% of the accidents are single vehicle nationwide and over 70% are where I live. :suprisedn: Here in the Ozarks your biggest challenge is always the terrain. The cars and deer are just an annoyance by comparison. My daily ride is a mini tail-of-the-dragon with the constant hills and curves. The are two hair-pin turns down a hill just to get into my subdivision. The risk is even higher than my homebuilt plane was. You have to take it slowly and anticipate problems. I take my hat off to older folks wanting to start new in this sport here. They found an older couple’s bodies with their Harley in a tree down one of the ravines somewhere south of me a few years back. You see the little crosses all over from the young speeders. There is helmet on a cross not two blocks from the entrance to my neighborhood. The guy was thought to be doing about 80-90mph at 2:00am around a tight curve and flew across the ditch and into tree branches as the bike dropped in the hole. Weeeeee.
The terrain is unforgiving here. When adventure touring friends visit I give them a lecture about riding in this area. 😉 There are a lot of things you can do to eliminate maybe 95% of the risk but you can’t eliminate it all. 😐 With all of that said – it is some of the most beautiful scenery in the US.
Pick up an adventure touring bike and Butler Ozarks map and head on down. 😛 Mine is a 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000. You want a dual sport bike here IMO. I see less and less Harleys. Adventure touring is encroaching on the heavy cruisers.
