UPS man was very good to me
The long awaited arrival of the big brown truck came to be yesterday afternoon when he delivered my ATN 3rd generation night vision goggles. Military spec intensifier tube with IR assist. Took them out into the pasture last night on their maiden voyage. Overcast clouds hid what was left of the moon rendering it “Pitch black”. Strapped the unit on and OMG, the world came to light in a brilliant green. Was watching some deer about 100 yds out and could see them as clearly as if they were lit up with a green spotlight. Now just awaiting the arrival of a red laser to mount on the AR for complete darkness sniping of varmints and hogs without the use of any lights. Just put the dot on them through the NV goggles and pull the trigger …. Can’t wait !!!

YN, yeah thats what we ordered, they had to ship from a different supplier than from where the goggles came from. I just checked my original post and saw that I forgot to include “Infra” in front of the red that I posted…. Thanks for clarifying that.

I’d highly recommend an IR laser as opposed to Red. Visible lasers can cause burn in and decreased life at worst and cause them to autogate and reduce sensitivity at best.

Well, I was going to say no, they wouldn’t work with glasses, but just put mine on to try and yes, they do work. The rubber eye cups are a very soft, kind of floppy rubber and they allow the eye glass to be snuggled inside and wrap around the lenses.
There is also a focus ring on the monocular tube to adjust for focus too.
Is there any way to use those with prescription lenses?
I cant wear contacts FYI, so that option is out.
That’s really cool lol you can see the laser beam perfect at night, are there any pairs like that that are a bit cheaper?
Cygnus, Retail was $2995 per set but me and a Dr. buddy went in together and bought 3 sets, the rep sold them for $2250 per set for the multiple order. Mucho Dinero yeah, but have always wanted a pair and they tell me even if the Government doesn’t take your money away from you, you still don’t get to take it with you to the grave…
I was just out in the shop where it is dark farting around with them and think I’ve got it figured out how to take a pic through them. I’ll go back out tonight after dark and try to shoot some through them and post later.
Im was on a SRT team for DOE for a period of time and we used similar equipment to make total darkness breaches into our shoot houses. We mounted AN/PEQ’s we called them VITAL 2, basically the same, onto our M4’s and used a PVS-14 mounted to our helmets. They worked F’n great. I loved our night time shoots, it was a blast.
While in the Army, we used the IR functions as a distraction, we would probe the perimeters set up by M1A2’s (Abrams) tank. You turn the IR one the NVD’s and roll your helmet one way and run the other, the tank would pick up on the IR light and traverse the direction of the light and 2-3 man patrol could roll right past them to the next.
A little off topic, but fun story for ya, I hope.

are they lightweight and a good fit for running around with at night ?
i tried YN’s head mount with my own 2nd gen mono, and after 30 minutes the weight was giving me a massive headache
YN found a powerfull spread beam laser….that should work well with digital scopes….and with sony camcorders….gonna see if i can mount my sony behind the eotech…and with a laser like that gets a useable result for a low budget night setup
