Q:

Valve O-ring ?

I was reading through the quick ref. section and found the post from Freefly103
“41. Valve Stem O-ring
All my valves are cut with a square sectioned o-ring groove measuring 1.60mm deep x 1.8mm wide.”

I then looked on McMaster carr but was not able to identify the one that met those sizes.

Could anyone post the McMaster carr # that could be used to purchase the correct O-ring?

I plan on making the mod to my valve and would like to practice a bit before the real cut happens on my gun.

Sorry, my mistake. Read your post again and see you were talking only about the groove and not the actual rubber O ring.

I work in SAE sizes only, being in the USA; so I’ve only fooled around with inch sizes of O rings. Perhaps one of our buddies across the pond can chime in and help with the metric stuff, which is so confusing to us yanks, since the metric system is so orderly and sensible. Yanks never seem to understand anything if there isn’t an element of chaos and disorder in it. I’m Japanese, to boot, so it has to be chaotic, disorderly, and want to commit suicide with a really long knife.

Well, to be honest I didn’t know that I was. What I wanted to do was the mod to the valve. It replaces the stock o-ring with what looks like a more sturdy looking o-ring. I can handle the internal grooving but I would like to get the right size o-ring, that Talontunes uses. At least then I can play around with what will work if all goes well. You don’t happen to know the size that I should use (round)?

I have guns with both square section and round section rings. It’s harder to find the square section rings and they don’t seem to give any benefit (such as lasting significantly longer than a normal round section O ring). I have not seen pressure data for the square section rings. My Anschutz has 1 cylinder that uses the square ones, and it started leaking at around the same time the round section cylinder started leaking. I replaced the round section rings, so have been using only that cylinder; the other cylinder is still awaiting square section ring replacement. However, note that most round section O rings use square section ring grooves. I have seen people cutting U shaped O ring grooves for their round section rings, though; but all of the manuals I have seen specify rectangular grooves for round O rings. Why did you want to go with the square section rings?
