Q:

valve spring retainer

I’m sure this is in the QR somewhere, but I’m just going to ask.

Anyone know what the thread size/pitch is on the Valve spring retainer?

Working on an idea. Thanks in advance.

quote ewoodie:

Diameter 12.7 mm, pitch 2 mm.

thanks. appreciate that.

guess i’ll have to get my threading tool sooner than i thought, don’t have a die for m12 2.0.

Diameter 12.7 mm, pitch 2 mm.

I already considered this as an idea for regulating shots, but as the reservoir would always be the same pressure as the main bottle I gave up on it.

On the non-FAC UK model there is already such a reservoir anyway (the spring chamber), and it’s tiny and fed by a pin-size hole. It’s the spring that makes sure the valve closes after the shot.

tightrope balancing act.

Didn’t say idea was perfect or be-all-end-all; just something i’m going to work with and see what happens.

I never would have considered it if I was working with a handpump, but thanks to HPA, a dumped tank or repetitive fills to make a valve alteration are no longer an issue 😀

So how you gonna keep the valve from dumping? A large part of valve closure is due to airflow and pressure.

You shoot your wad within the reservoir how fast do you need it to refill to close the valve?

Idea is extended spring retainer (an inch or more) w/ micro sized hole in the bottom, creating a larger “resivoir area” within the valve to supply air for the shot. Should have a “regulating effect” without all the moving parts (if the feed hole is waaaay too small for enough air volume to pass through while the valve is open). Won’t result in a potentially perfect shotstring like a true regulator, but given enough volume within the valve, should be very consistent for a larger number of shots. We’ll see. Just a crazy idea at this point and figure I’ll give it a try. I should have it accomplished this week and will report results (with pics of the mod for you machinist types that want to “roll your own”.

I dont know the thread.

But is your idea to make different threaded inserts for the retainer to vary the ability to change velocity?

That is one of my ideas inspired from Blobknob and his valve.

Tony is making different size aperatures for the valves to get the low power or high power.
