Q:

velocity problem

I have a Cricket Standard Tactical .22. About 4000 pellets through it so far. Using the WWAG hammer spring adjuster. Had velocity with JSB heavies set at 880 fps. Put her on the chrono now and velocity no matter how I mess with preloaded will not rise above 840 fps. Tried pressure in the tank from 285 bar to 120 bar. Did my regulator settle in too low? Do I need to adjust the reg now?

GKU, do you mean that when I assemble the regulator and it is set perfectly at 120 bars it can drop to about 110 bars once it is settled in? Sounds like 130 bars is a good starting point.

Not all guns are the same some my take a bit longer and some might change more or less.

If your gun is new I would wait up and let the gun break in before doing any internal adjustments.
It’s not only the reg that is breaking in, the entire gun from the barrel, trigger and all the springs through out the gun.
Usually about 800-2000 shots or so.

I believe that is why KG usually set the reg at 130 bar, that is what my 22 standard was set to and it drop by itself to 120 bar.

In your case I’d leave it at 120bar.
In time if it moves down a bit or not, you’ll know why and you can do a small tweak at that time.

Gee, another velocity problem post.

Again, it could be the weather, extreme cold condition has been to blame for some Cricket owners.

The other thing I would look into is your barrel alignment with your transfer port.
Some guns come with the 4 frame screw a bit loose, when removing the shroud to clean the barrel it can causes it to rotate without knowing.

Other then that, did you notice a lower regulated setting then before ?
Usually only about a 10 Bar drop occurs from breaking in.
If so you may need to either set your valve spring retainer out a bit no less then 1/2 turn and or open up your reg about 1/8 turn CCW.

If it’s cold weather related there are two small O-rings located inside of the reg.
I suspect that the OEM O-rings and lube are of poor quality and may also be the blame for not being able to handle the cold.
On the Rotor use 1.9mm X 3.8MM Buna-N 90 o-ring, instead of the 2mm x 4mm Buna-N 70 it may help with the cold weather.
The other one can be 2mm X 10mm V70 Viton o-ring.
Also don’t use Molykote 55 inside of the reg, use Supper Lube.

Also, if your going in there don’t forget to check your valve stem retainer.
Note the original settings and check if it’s become loose.
Usually when it become loose the velocity will go up, but that’s usually if it was already set hi at 1.5 turns after contact and became loose from there.
If it was set at 1/2 turn and it became loose the peak velocity usually becomes erratic.
