Vented Bushings – Why?
I see periodic posts about vented bushings. I think I understand some of the utility in a moderated gun. Is there an existing post (that someone can point me to) that covers the reasons for venting one’s bushings?
If not, would anyone care to kick off a discussion on the merits?
I’m just getting into Condor ownership, and I can’t leave anything well enough alone (or so my wife tells me) so I’m curious to hear the reasoning.
Related: does venting the bushings help with moderation, or does it help depending on the type of moderator?

When you read of vented bushings, it is the bushing nearest the muzzle that they are refering to. When combining the vented bushing with a shroud like LDC of the designs that Airhog and Talontunes manufacture, it allows gas or air to escape thru the bushing and into the area between the two bushings, this gives your LDC more volume and makes it quieter.
Volume increases the effiecency of any LDC.
If you vent the bushing on a Talon SS with the 12 inch barrel, in addition to adding internal spacers and washers or inserts that a few craftsmen on this forum make, it is far more efficient in deadening the noise, this is due to the fact the SS barrel is smaller in diameter and thus gives you more volume than a thicker 24 inch barrel with a vented bushing would
Some go further and drill small holes in the frame underneath the forearm so that the air in that area can escape. The jury seems to still be out on the benefits of drilling the frame.
