Q:

Vented front bushings

To those who have done this (venting front bushings), what size holes do you use? 1/8 inch? How many and in what positions.

Thanks again.

All the way around. Theirs room for a hole between the set screw and barrel screw hole. It adds 2 more holes, but every little bit helps

drill press… Drill Press…DRILL PRESS!! Of course I’m going to use one.

Thanks for the info. From the pictures I’ve seen, I thought that the holes were about 1/8″. Glad to have confirmation.

That is basically what I did. One question though, did you vent all the way around? I only vented the half without the set screw holes.

I did my 18” barrel bushing with a hand drill. You must have an eye for detail and measure carefully. I did it in four steps starting with a small pilot hole to check how straight that hole was before proceeding to the next size up. If the pilot was slightly off, you can angle the next drill size to composite for it. I don’t remember the finishing hole size, .125” or a little higher. Then lastly I used a ¾” drill to add the bevel on both sides. When finished all the holes were straight, just not perfectly spaced. A drill press would make it a lot easier. It took me about 1 ½ hours to do.

I would not try it. I ALMOST made a HUGE mistake while I was venting mine, darn hand drills!
