Q:

very touchy subject to me, Opinions OK….

Do you think shooting a scoped PCP makes you a better shot? When you go deer hunting with a 270, or maybe a 30-06
How about open sight pellet guns,
Pistols , springers, PCP or even pump.

This is my opinion , Its sight, steady, trigger pull, and follow through.
I learned a rule a longtime ago from a fellow shooter , He who shoots the most is going to be the better shot,, That going back to my teenage days , And I think Mike Branson knew what he was talking about,

Example, Your crazy you spent 500 dollars on a Beeman P11 that looks like a colt 911. And its a dam pellet gun…
Now I shoot my P11 three or four days a week my back yard, going through maybe 250 pellets a week.
Is this going to make me a better shot, Or going to the range and shooting two or three times a year with a 45 911 colt makes me a better shot.
I already know the answer, Just like to have some feed back, Keep thinks alive around here,
Please do not be SCARED to voice your opinion, My guns are on safe.

My buddy that goes P-dog shooting with me has a tonneau cover on his truck and it does make a great shooting platform.

What type of tonneau cover he got? Just finishing up the new wheels and nitto tires installation/alignment on my current truck project and thinking of getting either a tri-fold or 1-pc tonneau cover as shooting platform. I’ve seen some tri-fold that people can walk on top of it.

It’s an ARE cover one piece fiberglass. It’s on his 2017 F-150 Platinum

Alright I will take a look at ARE covers.

In my case it’s a single piece fiberglass hard tonneau cover but it’s a pain sometimes. If I need to help someone move a mattress It takes at least 2 people to remove my cover and the struts that hold it up. And it’s HEAVY. If you say there is a 3 piece strong enough for people to walk on then go with something like that. Also my tonneau cover is dead flat. I’ve seen plenty of those ARE’s that have the huge curvature to them and I don’t care too much for those and would allow things to roll off of them…which is good if you’re talking about rain or snow but as far as a shooting platform it’s not the best.

Just my :2cents:

Yup, and makes a great lean-to when raised that provides cover if you please.

Fuck shooting off the tailgate unless prone in the bed. Tailgate cables get in the way.

Shooting off the hood, be certain not to scratch your paint. On my truck, scratches would probably make it look better though.

I have a hard tonneau on my bed that’s PERFECT to shoot off of in the standing postition. It allows you to get my arms up on the cover and get ultra comfortable and gives a damn steady rested shot. That is, unless my dumb ass tries doing so in the middle of summer in the desert with a black truck.

Shooting off the tailgate is a PITA. Shooting off your hood is much nicer. I take a milk crate along incase I’m on a hill, makes it easier to get closer to your rifle. Plus the crate makes for good storage for your sandbags stapler etc…..

Good point Zonk,
I always bring way to much stuff, Kitchen sink and all,
even shooting off the tail gate would do,
Mike

Mike why are you taking a table? Shoot off the hood of your truck our out the window. All I carry is sand bags, tank ,pellets and gun.

LOL Papa
Being retired , when I pull the guns out its my time,
Yes I have bad days and good days , But when I shoot everything else is gone , Its my time, Even if its just 15 minutes,
I much prefer a couple of hours ,
I think I have found a place 15 minute drive from my house that will give me unlimited space to shoot, 25, 50, 75. 100, 125 , 150 yards and beyond, Loading every think in the truck is a hassle, Tanks, tables, deadshots , pellets , Guns, Targets .
I got my fingers crossed on this place, Pretty cool.
Mike

Mike, I perfectly agree.
Practice is really important. For a simple reason: get to know your gun, the hold, the pellet, the trigger, everything.
Don’t change guns until you get consistent results with one.
Once you’re there, you can change and “learn” a new one, when changing back, the first gun is still “in memory” and you get back to your results quickly.

One thing I’d like to add to your list, though is: “shooter’s daily form / mood”. Maybe obvious, but can be discouraging.

From my experience: got myself a HW97KT springer some time ago. Fits my frame perfectly, not too front heavy, easy to shoulder and head comes naturally to a rest behind the scope. All perfect for me unlike the LGV I already owned. First time out to shoot, I sprayed a bit around, but within reason and good enough to say that the gun is fine. Over the week the groups got smaller, tried different pellets and holds and found the combination granting consistently good results. Then all of a sudden some days later: holes all over the paper, what?!?
“It” wouldn’t group and wouldn’t hit the famous barn door even from the inside. Nothing had changed, no fiddling, no modifications, didn’t drop her, nothing. Put her aside for two days, got out again and there we were again, the team from before, shooting good groups. Obviously not the gun, but the type behind the stock and trigger the other day…

Still happens from time to time, even with the PCPs, just don’t insist, come back tomorrow.

Greg,
I have looked at the new Leyla. and looked, but that’s all, I bet your getting a 22 cal.
Mik
That’s on heck of a scope on a P17,
I like open sights on pistols, But that’s just me.
My P11 will be here, 11-01-17 thanks to Pyramyd air.
