Video: BALLOON "BUSTIN" at 105 yrds w/Rapid .25

Here is another cool little video that i put together of me shooting my Theoben Rapid .25 at water filled balloons at 105 yrds as measured by my LUEPY RX-1. Although it was a little windy that day, the R25 did not take notice. I mean every shot was dead on but, i wasn’t….lol.

After glancing down at my trajectory chart for my guns power level using my pellet of choice….The Beeman Kodiak at 30.7 grs. travelling 950 FPS…i saw that at 105 yrds, the pellet would impact at the 3.7 mil-dot location. Which is basically, right above the 4th lower mil-dot as dead on. The Bushnell 6×24 scope was set on power level 12 and the impact velocity of the Kodiaks pellet would be 666 FPS (eerie huh?) for roughly 32 FPE!!

Since my Rapid is a 12 shot airgun, my goal was to set up 12 balloons and make all 12 go POP each and every time. So on this day, it was gonna be a challenge cause of the wind and also just because of the task at hand…12 for 12 shots ON VIDEO. Needless to say, i missed a couple of times. But its all good. The gun definitely did its part at that range. So much so, that at the end of the shooting session, i was aiming at a piece of exploded balloon that was still tied to the string as it swung in the wind and i was really close to hitting it. It was just that my timing was a tad off.

Also, many thanks to my shooting/hunting buddy DARYL for helping me with the video/targets. I owe him big time cause not only did he set up all the balloons after each shot and video tape me shooting but, we were late for lunch and i told him that he could eat his lunch while i shot at the balloons. We did not know that i was gonna hit them all with such consistency that he would just get back to his seat and he would hear…..PFSSST…….THAWACK!!. LOL….IT WAS PRETTY DARNED FUNNY TO me cause on a few shots, i purposely would just let him sit down and open his lunch box and as he grabbed a drink of water i would quickly shoot the balloon….then he would have to get back up again…HEE HEE HEE. I am a GOOD friend….I SWEAR…lol!

Anyway, heres the video:

Nice… all I can say… is NICE!

OK, lets all plan on a shoot then.

njnoodles: Yep, she is still making 32 FPE at that distance

TF; Sounds good to me also. Maybe Saugus18 might make the scene also. I could certainly learn a few things from you. Most excellent! 😀

Steve-
You,me and saug or however need to hit Gorman for a day or 2.

Maybe Mr. WOK can make it as well ?

TF, that’s great, he’s getting into it. A shooter by any other name is… a shooter 😀 You are very fortunate to have a friend like that.

TF-
are you guys up in Gorman. If so let me know next time you plan on going.
Do ya need an adventure pass to get in there ?>
Definitely let me know, next trip.
Would love to meet up with you guys.

Steve, thats actually a good question. Hangin out with me, Daryl has slowly started to become a PLINKER. Believe it or not, he would only take shots at game and would never think of trying to hit a tree limb or distant soda can or anything when a bunch of us airgunners got together. He thought we were weird for plinking and burning up air and WE all thought he was weird for NOT plinking…LOL.

But he has really started to see that each and everytime you take your gun out of the bag to hunt, it’s best to bust a few targets first to make sure your gun is dead on. He did not wanna plink that day so he just offered up to help me. After watching my video now, he has cursed himself for not joining in.

Weird but, he doesn’t take very many TROPHY pictures either like i do. He can gut a rabbit then bag it up to take home but could care less about taking a photo. OH WELL, to each his own.

TF…you are an inspiration! Great shooting. Did Daryl get some trigger time too? He certainly earned it. Outstanding…thanks for the video. 😀

Thanks for the Info TF!

It irk’s me that the Rapids and Daystates keep having problems form the factory. Seems like the New MCT may have it right from the box. Time will tell.

Should I be able to order either, I probably would have to wait a while if it needed fixing before sending it out to one of the guru’s. Very frustrating. Read= Pain in the friggen ass!

Still on the to do list!

MIke 😀

You are definately a patient man.

MAW and KnifeMaker:

The tune is Half and Half. I originally tuned it to 930 FPS with Kodiaks using SWIFT parts. The fast flow Valve stem and valve body are his and i also installed his mainspring. I first had problems with clipping issues and i drilled out the Vortex to about .280″. It was about .250+” OEM which was way too tight. After i corrected that, the gun was shooting PERFECTLY. Then about 3 months later, i developed a leak that was getting worse and worse. After dissassembling the gun completely and disecting it…i could not figure out why the VALVE BODIES KEPT BREAKING. Well, i sent the gun to swift and he found out that the HAMMER was not TRUE. Kinda like a crooked pool stick when you roll it on a pool table. He corrected that and the broken valve body issues were cured once and for all. He basically mapped the guns inside breech area. I KNOW, I KNOW, a 1700 dollar airgun with all them problems. The only reason i fixed it and did not return it is because i am a tinkerer at heart and i JUST HAVE to fix everything. With all the internals trued and corrected, i then bumped the power up to 950 FPS and i still have plenty of power adjustment left over.

I took off my 500 cc bottle and put my 400 cc back on and i can do over 25 shots which is way sufficient for the shooting that i do. I shot that whole video on a 3200 psi fill and 2 magazines with no shift in POI. With the 500 cc bottle, i can get 3 full magazines, but i don’t like the weight of the gun with the 500 cc on it.

man! Your kill’in me with with that Super Rapid!

What kind of shot count you getting out of it T/F?

Any Swift work on it?

Mike

The last part got a laugh out of me, did you tune the Theoben too, or is it stock? The carnage was almost too much to bear. Good Shootin!!
