Q:

Virus on the forum site

Guys. For the 3rd time over the course of 2-3 months while surfing in the FOR SALE section I have gotten a pop up asking me to install JAVA. Even though I click the x to close the window if doesn’t close and process to install a fake antivirus program. It then shuts down my anti virus and won’t let open and exe saying its infected and won’t let me out on the net. My only recourse is to do a system restore from a few days earlier. Then I run a new scan with anti-malware bytes and it finds:
Trojan.0access
Toolkit.0access.epd
Malware.packer.sgx1
Trojan.agent.ed

I am running a win 7 pro machine with Symantec anti virus and it doesn’t catch it or prevent it from installing.
I am an IT manager by trade so here are the things I know:

It doesn’t affect IoS devices or macs
It has ONLY occurred on this website in the forums section
I have scanned this site externally and it doesn’t show anything malicious
I’ve also noticed this site no longer sends emails to threads I have subscribed to

I am just wondering if anyone else has seen this? Or perhaps a scan can be run by the moderators on the site. I think it might be worth a look.

Confirmation Bias my friends

This sight is clean.

My computer is on it constantly with never a problem.

Chances are you are getting the problems from the porn sites you look at.

Yes, it got me 3 times from this site a few weeks ago.

I had to install the Windows and Java security upgrades, and also updated my Malwarebytes Anti-malware (all free).

Now, no more issues for the last couple weeks.

It definitely came through this site though.

ya avast is sweet. doesn’t bog your system down at all.

had that happen once, the other week, while logging in. AVG caught it and contained it right away. never caused any problems. AVG in conjunction with Malwarebytes works well for me. just a thought.

yes my avast stops it and dosent open the web page then i can click refresh and the fourm is fine

Update. I have scanned this site with several external scanning tools and all are coming up fine reporting no problems. There certainly could be something residing on my pc but it is perplexing that it only happens when browsing fr sale items on this forum. Anyway just wondered if anyone else had seen this or something strange. All looks fine from the outside. Thanks.
