Q:

Vulture condor 30cal

Bought a barrel as commissioned by a fellow airgunner up here to shoot the FX 46 grain pellets

Here is a string from today.

2525 psi to 1500psi

975 995 976 930 934 950 955 990 1009 1004 1009 996 976 969 968 971 989 990
981 992 991 992 1004 1000 1012 1014 1005 1008 1011 1005 992 1006 997 1000
992 987 985 983 983 974 967 962 957, 955

It seems leading is a problem so need to select a lube.
Pretty pleased with the velocity but may lighten the hammer to get more like 900 for a speed.
Cheers,
Walter….

BTW can someone remind me how to calc the bar-fpe/cc for the above?

Summer time with family

He is so happy playing with it, he has no forum time.

Any update on this .30 cal mod?

Definitely POLISH the bore even if you simply use JB Bore past. Clean it thoroughly first then hand lap it.

A good bore scope will also tell you if there are any rough spots in there.

Those speeds aren’t HORRIBLY fast but they are fast. More than likely, polishing will be the answer to a cleaner barrel. Fast doesn’t always mean bad accuracy. My Rapid 25 does NOT like 880-890-895-900-910-or 920 fps. I loves around 930-945 fps. But good speeds should be somewhere in the 890s-950s i would think.

The numbers FLUCTUATE LOW just a couple of times though and not sure if that’s caused by severe leading or the valve breaking in…..etc..etc..etc..etc…

Walter, have you filled the gun to 3000 psi yet? Those are some amazing numbers at only 2500 psi. Seems like 3000 psi, and some balancing, you would get SUPER TIGHT and CONSISTENT numbers.

WOW! your making me want a .30 cal

Pellets do seem to like that magic 900 number, but I know my 20 cal. barrel, shot good even faster. You may want to clean the barrel 1st, before shooting,

Walter,

My use is different in that I shoot slugs. Having said that all TJ barrels that I have seen and owned, 3 so far a .452 and two 257’s, are a little rough and need polishing.

I fire lap mine and the results have been very satisfying in both the increased number of shots between cleanings and increased accuracy. Thing is TJ barrels are usually superb in the accuracy department, after all Doug and Tofazfou used TJ barrels to reach 447 yards in the 12 oz Pepsi Challenge and I went to 552 yards on the same targets, before I fire lapped, in a month I will try with the fire lapped barrel 600, 650 and perhaps 700 yards if the Wind Gods are willing.

I fire lapped my 1-10 12 about 10 days ago or so and posted about it, the difference at 280 yards was going from 3.5 inch groups to 1.5 and 2 inch groups with the 100 grain NOE bullet at 985 to 1000 FPS.

I don’t know if fire lapping is applicable in your case due to the fact you shoot pellets, but if you slugged the bore and found the groove diameter, you could get some cast bullets perhaps sized to your bore and fire lap it.

I use Silicone oil for bullet lube and for sizing lube these days.

Good luck on your accuracy testing. That rifle with one of Tony’s off set tank adapter or a canted ETAC would be a reasonable alternative to a FX Boss or a Wolverine.

RC

Yes I use the Lee alox when I size them. Then I shoot them with what ever lube is left.

Thank you Doug.

Do you run lube?

Walter…

I would say around 900 fps like other pellets like.

My .25 TJ’s barrel leaded up pretty good. Now it seems fine after the first cleaning. I shot like 500 shots before I cleaned it. This was shooting also.

RC it is a TJ’s barrel 25″ long with specs to suit the JSB pellets.

What do those numbers look like to you? Thinking I need to back off a bit to reduce leading/fouling.

Who made that barrel Walter?

Regards,

Roachcreek

If you go to yellow and click the forum rules box and look at the selections, you will find airgun calculaters.
