Q:

wadcutters, crow mags?

perhaps and most likely im wrong, but i like wadcutters. ive read that they are no good for anything but 10m and are worthless past 20m. but i like the woosh they make, and have found the rws supermags pretty good. are they really worse than round nose pellets? and crow mags seem to get harshed on, but i find them acceptable, not as accurate but they sure pop. im just not convinced that a flat nose is much worse than a round nose given the waist and skirt after[/u]

I use wadcutters up to about 30 yards for popping bird brains. Past that, I’ve found domes to work better.

ya know, i’ve wondered the same thing a couuple of times. seems to me the hp would build a ” bubble” of air in the nose, effectively making it a round nose. i would love to see someone do some high speed photos of a crow mag or similar hp in flight, just to satisfy my curiosity. especially the crow, because it has such a large cavity iin the nose, and the shape of the cavity is almost a perfect half circle. any takers?

Hey Wok, better quit spankin your monkey, looks like he is gettin sore.

Steve in CT will want somebody to turn you in to the ASPCA for animal abuse.

what caliber are you shooting, i only had experience with 177 untill late 2009, and i always used wadcutters because the round nose would go thru game so easy, a wad cutter would give allot more shock for killing ability. with a 22 its seem s you don’t need the wad cutter so badly for shock and killing ability, the round nose does nicely. and it seems with 22 the wad cutter with my condor does not want to perform over 600 or 700 fps for best accuracy over 30 or so yards, i can get 25 to 36 yard one hole groups but 50 yard groups this tight seem to allude me. i have killed allot of game with the rws hp at 800 fps , it works well , as well as the crow mag at 900fps and under , but they do not group as well.with sorting they will group better, and they sound like hitting an oar on flat water when hitting meat.

I was able to use them to about 25 yards but they still sucked compared to other pellets.

What I did like them for is I would put them in my Career 300 and shoot gophers as they stuck their heads out of their holes.

It would hit them so hard the Cro Mags would pull the gophers out of the hole…LOL
