Watch out for the ccd display NV devices
I found a great deal on a Yukon Phantom NV device.
To make a long story short, the display, a modified cam corder mechanism, was 4mm large (the human pupil is 7mm) the clarity was pure disaster. No clarity, no distance, impossible to focus, and the IR was a joke, as when turned on, the square image became a small round circle.
Every movement required a re-focus of the Objective lens, and the brightness control.
These are on Ebay and elsewhere for $160 to $360….beware. I read reviews before mine was shipped and cancelled the order. However, after they refunded my payment, they shipped it anyway.
I tested it and it is pure shit. I wrote the owner and advised him to dump this product. I told him even if he told me to keep it free of charge, I would toss it in the garbage.
Other than the Elcan and the Pulsar S550, you’re taking a real chance on getting one of these modified IR cam corder view finders.

speaking of camcorder night vision…..im really surpriced at how good my sony can record at night….i mean its not a night vision device….just something the sony’s guy noticed that their ccd was good at picking up IR….the build in IR led is powerfull enough for indoor recordings, and add a 3w IR light its good to 35-50 yards….maybe more with a proper IR flashlight and not just some 3W ebay IR
hoot you should try and use a 3W IR…they are about 22$ on ebay for a complete flashlight, minus the batteries…might make the device you got useable
if mounted behind a scope its VERY important to be using good glass….i tried my night vision behind several scopes….such as the nikko nighteater 6-24×56…tasco…in common they had a low price point and ok to good picture quality in daylight but at night time with NV behind it they where crap…that is until i tried my bushnell 4200 series…picture got 2-3x more bright and detailed with a 2. gen module, scope advertices 94% or something like it light transferrance….and you know what it worked…also the bushnell legend 5-15×40 worked very well too….so if you mount NV behind a cheap/crappy scope your gonna get a crappy result…behind good glass it will perform much better
send the NV to me and i’ll test it with my flashlights 😉
Mine is still sitting in the box in my gunroom. The seller never asked for it back. It’s honestly that bad!

Right away, Cygnus….right after I receive your Bushnell 5-15X40.
It’s a fair trade, as I believe you are correct in using better glass…which you have in the Legend, and I don’t.
However, if I had the Bushnell 5-15X40, I could then see what I’m looking at in the daylight, and with the Bushnell Legend and Yukon Phantom you’d have the ability to see in the dark.
I’d expect you to pick up all shipping. PM me for my address.
