Q:

Well, I finally ordered the NightForce scope

Oh the pain! Lot’s of freaking bucks for a scope and rings etc. Thank God the gun is paid for!

As an aside, I emailed a couple of the online retailers and asked why I should buy from them since the scope cost the exact same amount regardless of where I purchased it. The only reply I got that was from an actual person was from a fellow at Optics Planet. He explained why the price is the same everywhere (NF pressure) but he also offered me upgraded shipping (and came through after the order) and a deal on a fantastic night vision conversion that I will buy from him right after the lottery decides I need money!

The scope and accessories are all back ordered. Apparently NF is doing a decent business despite the economy. I wonder if that is due to military orders or folks getting ready for the revolution? 😆 😆 😆

I saw a sniper show the other night. The Canadian that broke Carlos Hathcock’s record for longest kill used US ammunition and the “identical rifle” appeared to have a NF scope on it. Regardless of the scope, what a shot! And…how fucking stupid do you have to be to have a bullets land near and not run like Hell? Thank goodness we’re fighting morons.

Hathcock used a 50cal butterfly machinegun with a homemade scope mount on it and he shot the gook while riding a bike.so thats what he said in his book.

Which “zipperhead” are you talking about…Not the “Cobra”.

by the way u will love that thing

It will probably be 4 weeks before I see the scope if the initial projections were accurate. I’ll post a review as soon as I have results. I hope I like this scope as much as I want to like it!

I’ll try and pretend to be objective for the review! For one thing, it will go head to head against the Nikko Sterling Diamond on my Prairie 3. About the only thing I find fault with the Nikko is that edges show color separation. Focus in on a bright white panal on a dark background and you can really see it…at huge magnification. It will be neat to compare the scopes at identical settings against the same target. If the NF doesn’t shine, I’m going to send Knife a bill! 😆 and a promise to try the Zeiss!

I wonder if I can get decent pictures through different scopes on the bench? It’s worth a try. I notice that the magazine guys don’t do that with all their expertise and resources…. 🙄

Looking forward to a review Jerry. I know a couple guys with NF scopes on their Accuracy International’s and they really like them.

80,
The NF scope has over 100 MOA internal adjustment, that’s one of the reasons I bought one. At the altitude and range of the record shot, the shooter was seriously past “max effective range” and he was also doing a fantastic job of compensating for ballistics he had never seen (he’d never shot at this high an altitude) and he was not used to shooting the better US ammo. All in all, that guy is a great sniper and deserves a lot of respect.

3000 yard shots? Well damn! Guns and ammo keep getting better. I suppose that it won’t be long before someone actually makes a gun and ammo that can take operational abuse and still make that 3000 yard shot. I guess they better order a higher magnification from S&B right now!

Speaking of ammo design, has anyone followed the technology? It’s all about managing shock waves and preventing shock waves. It’s amazing how two bullets almost the exact same weight can have hugely different long range results based on a tiny little transition from curve to flat…

If they keep becoming longer range, camo will go out. Laughing You could wear solid pink with a billboard saying “sniper here” over you at 3000 yards and still wouldn’t have anything to worry about.

BAHHHHHHHHHH ha haahahaa!!! 😆 😆 😆

I can see the headlines now…

Gay sniper flames 6 insurgents from 3000 yards , gay iraqis hold parade for the sniper dubbed the “”pink panther.””

Pink Panther kills 6!!

I think he was stretching the “max effective range a few hundred yards”.

quote 80 GRIT:

perhaps there isn’t enough internal “up” in any scope to achieve such compliment.

It would have dropped about 150 feet give or take a few feet.

Probably right, I know a lot of the big anti-everything guns such as the 20mm use rails that you can twist a screw on it to adjust the entire rail up. Bullets dropping a lot at 2000+ yards. 🙂

Sweet. Be sure to upload pics when you mount it, along with a full evaluation! Where did you buy it from?

What I did not understand about that shot was the fact that this guy is out there in a combat zone (obviously knows what he is doing) with this high dollar .50 BMG McMillan, but a scope that “maxed out” way short of the weapons capability 😯

Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t a BDC turret correspond to the “maximum effective range” of the rifle??? If I was putting in overwatch duty with such a stick, I would hope to have a BDC that corresponds…

I think it was right about 2450 yards. 😯

With guns like the intervention coming out, I wonder how far someone really could reach out and touch someone. The intervention is capapable of human size targets at 3000 yards and more. 😯 😯 😯 😯

I got the 5.5-25×56 zero stop with the NP-R1 reticle and MOA turrets.

That longest shot was about a mile and a half…no big deal! 😯

I dunno Jerry, stupid is as stupid does I guess. How long did they say the longest kill was?

congratulations Jerry. Nightforce is good glass. I’ve had my eye on the 8-32×56 target knob…I’ve seen them for around 1800.00 And if you don’t want Target knobs I’ve seen one that is 12-42×56 for 1,359.00 42 x mag 😯

Which one did you get?
