What a jerk.
My replacement valve came today, the one that was supposed to “increase your ft/lb to between 25ft/lb and 35ft/lb” (with the current stock one I’m getting 11.66ft/lb).
So, it’s a stainless steel one-piece item, the shaft is rough (scored) and not a single dimension is different. Same internal bore and the two holes at the end of it (that go down inside the bottle) are same size and position as stock (the only two things that could have made a possible difference).
I tested it with the chrono anyway…not a jot of difference.
Cost me £17 ($34). Totally ripped off.
So, does anyone here know of anyone who can simply supply me with replacement components, to US spec? I’m figuring the entire valve assembly in the bottle needs to be swapped out, not just the stem & top-hat. Any pointers will be appreciated, TIA. 😀

Edit: Ok, I’ve just googled Airforce and found their site. I’m pretty sure they won’t supply a Condor valve to anyone in the UK without paper-work in triple triplicate, stamped with the blood of Christ, even though a valve is nothing more than a handful of metal components that could be used for a water tap for all they know, so would anyone Stateside be prepared to buy and send me one? :cheesygrin: 😆

I’ve sent the chap an email, but I don’t know what he can say, if anything. Not only is the piece nothing more than an exact copy of the stock part, apart from the fact it’s one solid piece of steel, instead of a threaded shaft and a removable top-hat, but the external surface of the shaft is scored. I’ve tried to polish it out with 1500-wet&dry and microcompound, but the score-lines are still there. If I go deep enough to remove them I’d reduce the diameter of the shaft enough to allow air to escape that way from the bottle every time I fired the rifle.
The other absurdity is he’s supplied a plastic washer so thick that if it were left in place it would totally prevent the top-hat from moving down at all on the firing-stroke. He says it can be thinned, to increase power. Even with it completely off there’s no increase in power over stock! I’m thinking the chap must be a nutter.
Anyway, could one of you American fellows please give me some idea of your dimensions? Namely the diameter of the shaft on your US-spec rifles, and the bore-diameter of the shaft? Mine are 4.75mm and 3mm respectively. I’ve kind of assumed the shafts on yours would be thicker than the UK-spec ones, to allow a bigger bore without risking thin and weak walls.
Also the internal components…are the spring-retainers on the US spec supplied with a bigger aperture? Obviously there is no point in me drilling out the shaft if the spring-retainer’s aperture is restricted anyway. The way forward from there is for me to completely remove the entire valve-assembly from the bottle and do some work on every single component that requires it.
And don’t worry about the FAC, the rifle is for use in Iceland.

Have you spoken with the guy and told him that you haven’t gained any power? Maybe there is a genuine mistake and he will be eager to put it right? As for the power, the stem will need to be wider, that much is true, but that can be done with a UK-spec valve and a drillpress. If you are in the UK and aren’t FAC then please be careful with what you are doing. Aside from that though please feel free to ask any questions and we will help as much as possible.
Let one of the higher up guys tell you first, but you might want to let us know the name of the guy who sold it to you. It would be bad for someone else to spend the money to the same guy and not get anything for it. But like I said, let the mods tell you that first.
That’s pretty much what I was expecting, a replacement with a wider bore and bigger holes at the bottom. I figured there would still be a chance something inside the bottle would be restricted; I’ve seen comparison pics of the spring-retainer, one of which has a much narrower port than the custom one.
I’ll be happy to name & shame the jerk if that would help anyone else from being deliberately ripped off.
With the stock talon you can take a drill to the end of the tophat and the holes at the bottom of the stem and that will increase your power.
Let one of the higher up guys tell you first, but you might want to let us know the name of the guy who sold it to you. It would be bad for someone else to spend the money to the same guy and not get anything for it. But like I said, let the mods tell you that first.

That looks like a nice improvement, apart from the increased power I suppose it offers. As requested in the edit, is anyone prepared to buy and send me a Condor valve? Remuneration via Paypal of course. 😀
