what are the legalities of silencers on air rifles?
Me and a couple of friends are having an argument maybe you can clear it up for me. Is there anything in the federal laws for the USA that says you cannot have a silencer on an air rifle? some of the stuff i do with my air rifle is probably not the smartest thing to do anyhow just wondering if the shroud is one more thing they could use against me.

well there is no way mine can go on a firearm so i guess im good
if it can be removed off of an air rifle without damage to the moderator or gun and be used on a firearm then it is illegal
so are you saying it is or isnt illegal to have them on the airgun?
a moderator or silencer is conciderd a firearm dosent matter if you have it on your airgun or your pocket it still is the same thing the shrouds that we use for our talons are going to have to be extencevly altered to fit a firearm

It is really up to how big of a prick the ATF agent wants to be some of the agents out there will put you in jail for having a moderator regardless if it can be modified to fit a firearm it would fall under the agents discretion and believe me a lot of them couldn’t tell a full auto part from a semi auto.
the best way is to permanently attach it to the barrel if it can be unscrewed or easily removed then the agent can claim it could be used on a firearm it is real easy to make an adapter to use most moderators on regular firearms.
I have an extensive back ground as a gunsmith dealing with suppressors and machine guns for over 10 years this is just me outlook on the subject but I would warn the guys that make there own moderators to be vary careful if ATF gets wind of it each baffle is punishable by 1-5 years and up to $5000.00 dollar fine.
When I make suppressors I have to have a registered housing to store the baffles in if not they would fine me as well so I registered two five gallon buckets as suppressors to be compliant with there weird laws.
