Q:

What are the tube/thread size?

Dont have a caliper…

So what are the LDC and air reservoir tube OD and thread sizes? I want to extend the air tube 2.5″ so total length is 30″ and 2″ for the ldc. With that, shot count will increased and sound will decreased. Win! Win!

Anyone want to join for a group buy….now which CNC guy can do this for us?

:hoot:

Substandard velocity.

Yes…I know, your Shorty is shooting at 865 fps and you are getting 30 shots per fill. Unfortunately, mine isn’t performing to that level.

I too , would be interested in a .25 Mutant Shorty . My three main concerns are : (1) Will the .25 be backyard friendly which for me
is the number 1 main concern . I accept this gun to be basically a 50 yard dead on shooter , therefore , (2) What will be the lightest
effective type and grain of pellet to kill at 50 yards or more ? (3) What will be the best effective type and heaviest pellet to shoot in
order to kill at 50 yards ? (4) Will this gun allow you to buy different caliber barrels and switch them out or is this a single caliber gun ?
(5) What type or size of scope rail will this gun have ? I would be putting a 1″ tube 3-9x40mm scope on this gun , would it fit the rail ?

FROM : THE BIRDMAN

Me , Well my Listone or what ever barrel likes all the pellets I stuck in it so far, SO.
I am just going to call it my 50 yard gun.
I am going to set back and wait for the 25 and see what it does, If its not to my liking I might start jacking around with the 22 Mutant.
The problem is I got three dam good shooting PCP guns I just can not let go of,

Last night I vented the Shorty ‘shroud’ with seven evenly spaced 1.5mm holes in the 1.5″ dead air/empty space that exists between the end of the threaded muzzle inside the shroud and before the snap-ring location where the baffles are located. That’s a lot of expansion room and if carefully vented you can substantially reduce the amount of air pressure before it reaches the baffles. The result is a given…a quieter gun.

Yes, it made a difference. Per my objective two ears with a before and after shot test at night, over water, where every sound is magnified.

As for adding two inches to the barrel…it’s a common 15mm diameter barrel which is readily available from various dealers. All it needs for a simple drop in replacement is to have the muzzle end threaded to fit the OEM screw on ‘shroud’. Once that is in hand, you loosen the four hex screws that grip the barrel, loosen the set screw at the end of the breech top…and the barrel simply pulls out. If you really want to go mechanical you can drill a dimple at the breech end of the barrel so the set screw can screw down into it.

I believe 11″ is too short for this little gun. Adding two inches will not ruin it’s looks, and will improve it’s performance. I believe Randy at R&L Airguns has the equipment to offer this in an LW barrel. Perhaps he will chime in here and tell us one way or the other?

You will have to Ask one of the dealers selling the mutants….

The parts can be made …. but you would have to source a longer barrel…

Dman….can those of us who are “hung too short” buy the new barrel/shroud to replace our shorter “tubes”???

Hoot:

ok so here is the original and the new style….

Guess i was wrong…. They kept the same amount of baffles , they just shortened the spacers…..

Used the same tubes just changed the way the attached… ( same as std mutant now)

and the barrel is 2″ longer.

They are essentially the same Shroud/LDC…

just the back hardware is changed and they may have removed one baffle to shorten the insides….

see pics….

Standard….

I believe a 13.5″ barrel would make all the difference in the world with this gun.

iride, what dman is saying is proportion of LDC to shroud is less with the new shorty. with the standard its about 50:50. The original shorty I don’t know as I don’t have one.

This is something i just noticed… and it seems to be on the latest batch….. I just measured them its a 2″ difference …. but it makes up for around 30 25 – 30 Fps .

The Top is the Original design… The LDC gets sandwiched inside the front clamp….

and on the bottom one is a shroud design which is what the newer version comes with…

Yea I got to see pictures of that, My small mind is have trouble with this, 11 inch barrel went to 13.5 inch barrel but its the same size?
You stumped me on that one,
Mike

My understanding is the Mutant standard barrel will fit on the Mutant shorty,
Mike

However, adding two to three inches to the existing 11″ barrel would certain help raise the max fps without making the gun look ridiculous.

Hoot:

Well mr hoot…

It looks like it’s already been done…

The newest batch of shorties has a 13 – 13.5″ Barrel.

They went with a shroud like the standards design (No adapter)
So it’s more like a shroud than a ldc which was being used.

So now the barrel sticks out 1.5″ in front of front tube clamp….

Same length gun but now it’s around 30 fps faster…

I will take pics tonight to show difference.

:hoot:

Mike, that would make the “Shorty” look like a “Shordard“! The barrel would stick way out beyond the air cylinder, you would look like a fool, and all the other kids at the range would laugh at you!

However, adding two to three inches to the existing 11” barrel would certain help raise the max fps without making the gun look ridiculous.

I suspect one could order a Standard barrel and cut off the excess…I’ve never believed in a “choke” at the end of the barrel anyway…why not simply shoot the right diameter pellets to begin with? A choke, in my not so humble opinion, never made any gun shoot better, it just made one barrel fit more pellet brands!
