What color of LED light is best for hunting?
I notice a bunch of rats frequenting my place at night. I plan to mount an LED flashlight on my pcp…inspired by some of the best dressed Crickets and Matadors mounted with flashlights here. Some say, green does not spook the rats. I have read about red too. Wat do you say guys?

I was doing some more reading. The reviews are much more favorable for the nd3xl than for the nd3. Batteries don’t hold up well in cold weather…not even in the 40’s. The XL is a subzero model and has 2 batteries instead of one. It’s still small, but about an inch and a half longer. What do you think? And yes, I would need the 30mm mount for $35 bucks more.
Why not a DIY nightvision? You can put one together for 100$ or so. 501 torch with IR led, cheapish CCTV camera and LCD display. Rats never know what hit them.

Then some miscellaneous mounts to attach it all to the gun. I used weaver scope mount for the LCD with DIY base. Camera was mounted with high 1″ scope mount that I honed out a bit. Torch mount was 2$ from DX. The battery is attached with leather strap for now. Some people use piece of plastic pipe for scope/camera mount or you could use two scope mounts and a piece of weaver rail (I use that when I use the system in my 10/22). I also bought a remote pressure switch for the torch for 4$ + a 18650 rechargeable battery from DX. Totals around 130$.

Glad I could help. I used the momentary switch which placed in front of the stock. I find it more convenience. You don’t want to cause a distraction to other people. Other people may find the button is easier. I would get the smallest one possible, to keep the weight down to the minimal. It comes with both button and switch. When the laser is turned on, you can see a faint trace of green between you and your target.
Dr, I think the ND3 comes with 1″ scope ring mount. Make sure your scope has the same diameter. Let us know how you like it.

I have looked at the ND3 Laser Designator..and its less expensive copy at Greenbase. but sadly, it is out of my budget. .. I am cheap guy. 🙁

So said it is out of your budget, you can still find one used on eBay for a reasonable price. If you are not going to be used during cold weather, you can choose the standard version. It can be had for about 120 used. Which ever one you choose, make sure the mount is adjustable.

80% of my shooting sessions are at night, I can see fine at 25,35, and 45 yards. I do not know about other critters, but rabbits, coons and possums are not spooked at all. When first turned on, is used wide setting, once I picked up their reflective eyes, I narrow the beam to get a clear view.
I have not used other set up so I can’t say it is the best, but have to say it Is an important part of my air gun collection. Just buy different mount for different scopes.

Hey Campbell. I saw some product video just now for the nd3….nice light. Love the beam focusing! I plan on doing a lot of night hunting….how do the varmints react when the light is first switched on?
I have used BSA nd3 laser designator on raccoons and rabbits at night. You can hunt in total darkness and still can see. There eyes will glow in the dark. It is light weight, super easy to use. Here is my set up. Did I mention the laser is green.

Green is definitely better than red. Rats figured out red after just 2 kills.
For some reason the green is less noticed by them and easier to see through scope.
Treat yourself with a ledlenser t7 and its filter set.
The set contains of a green, red, yellow and blue filter so you can switch and try for your self.
I have the t7 and I always use the green filter. Easy on the eyes while looking through your scope and the animals doesnt seem to care.

As I mentioned before, the standard is good in warm weather. In cold weather, the subzero is best. To be honest, I do not have the standard model so I cannot comment it it work well at or below 40f. I went for the subzero just in case it gets cold in the night. I am in California.
Ask your supplier if they are willing to sell you one with a 30 mm mount. If not, you can buy 30mm mount and save the 25 mm for your future scope. You can put it up on eBay or sell it to me. 😆 😆 😆 :8: :8: :8: :1:
