Q:

What glue for Pelican case foam?

So after I cut out the middle piece of foam on my pelican case, it needs to be glued down so it does not come out every time I pull my rifle out. Does anyone know what type of glue to use on this foam that will not destroy it?

Dounble sided tape, in case you want to remove it easily.

3M Super 77 spray adhesive

Stupid question time………..Why are you cutting out a shape instead of just using the compression to hold it in place?

Are you guys finding the “grey” stuff, or like me, only able to find the greenie kind of foam?

Foam is polyester. Good spray adhesive for this purpose is 3M Super 77. I have several Pelicans and used this spray adhesive in most of them. Did one with double sided velco. The double sided velcro allows me to change the middle layer so that I can use the case for different layouts. I cut foam layouts for my Condor and Logun S16 so I swap them out as necessary. The double sided velcro works ok, but you have to be gentle with it and remember where the tabs are so you don’t separate foam and velcro. This solution is ok for light work and taking guns to and from the range or temporary storage. I wouldn’t opt for this method if I needed 100% protection for the contents. The Pelicans that are finished with spray adhesive are bullet proof and cant be used for much else, unless I replace all three levels of foam. Tip: Instructions for spray adhesive will tell you to spray both surfaces… I cut out templates to shape the middle layer and then used them to mask the top and bottom layers from the glue to avoid overspray in areas that will come in contact with the contents of the case. Instructions say to cut shapes 1/4 inch inside the desired shape, which works great… although I would recommend a little more for small heavy objects to ensure tighter fit. Small heavy items are more likely to move in the event of hard hit… often hitting and damaging larger lighter things.

Standard rubber cement found at Office Depot, Staples etc.
