What is the least expensive .22 pellet that works well …
… in a Talon SS?
I ask this since, much of my shooting is water bottles, and such.

Wish I could get the Kod’s locally. The 4for3 deal is great, but you have to buy 149.00 in merchandise for the shipping not to eat you up!
I have still to try the JSB’s. All I hear of them is good. I’ll pick up a tin or three the next time in Austin. At least they do have these relabeled.
I group the same at 35 yards with CP’s, JSB’s, and Kodiaks.
At 75 yards and beyond, the only pellet to group well are Kodiaks.
Unsure why, but Kodiaks will group very consistent at range, but the others all open up and its hard to tell where they may go.
If my shooting is within 40-50 yards, I stick with Predators though. Past that I shoot kodiaks. Its lucky for me, the POI is only 3/8″ lower at 50 yards, and I have my mil-dot aiming points worked out for longer ranges.
Since kodiaks are always available in 3 different local stores, and never above $7.00 a tin, they are my best choice.
Hard to beat the 4th tin for free though at pyramid.
It’s so true that every gun likes different pellets. When I first got my Crosman 2250, I went thru the ordeal of finding out which ones worked best for it. In fact, easily went thru a 80 cf Co2 tank to find out. Turns out the gun really liked the Crosman ‘Hunter’ pellets, 14.3 grain. So When I went to Mac 1, I asked Tim if he had these in bulk. He said why do you like those, and referred to them as ‘Floorsweep’ pellets.
He conviced me to buy 2 boxes 650 in each box of Premiers instead, saying if I liked the hunting ones, I would love these, and wouldn’t be sorry. I also picked up a 500 tin of JSB Exact Jumbo’s to check out.
Since I’ve heard so many rave reviews on the premiers, I went home and started shooting them right away. With my modded 2250, I was easily grouping tight inside nickle/quarter size circles at 75 ft with the Hunters. Well, I was dissapointed right away! I couldn’t come close to the accuracy the Hunters gave me, and I had just bought 1300 of these Premier pellets. I kept trying, no luck. I returned the unopened box, and put that towards more hunters.
The Premiers work good in my SS for sure though, as do the Hunters, which work great in both my guns. Anyways, I would recommend the Hunters to see how they work in your gun, and I’m almost positive they’re cheaper than Premiers. They’re not really pointed or domed, they’re kinda in-between.
On a side note… Personally I think the JSB Exacts have to be one of the best pellets ever made on the planet. Not to heavy, not to light, very well made and consistant. Many different guns love the taste of them, both of mine do, I just can’t afford to shoot them at the rate I shoot.
But consider these Hunter/Field pellets, reasonably priced, very accurate in both my 2250 and SS, and might work for you as well.
The Crosman Premier are inexpensive in the box and they work good in .22. It’s hit and miss with .177’s
Yep, thanks rusty, thats it! I just got a flyer from cabalas. They are listing a 5oo count of theCP Hollow point for 9.99. They have the regular domed cp in .177. Of Course!!! I am told that they shoot nearly as well as the regular CP’s. Any one have any input here? Mike

Thanks guys! I know my RWS 850 AirMagnum (.177) enjoys the CP Hollowpoints. And, there is a SW down the road from my office, too. 😀
For a while, wally world was selling the crossman domed, which is virtually identical to the CP’s that we all love. Also, If a sportsman wearhouse is anywhere near you. The JB exact is sold under a different lable in tis s of 500. It is in agrean tin with a bear on the front. May be some one here can give you the name.

I not sure how the Kodiaks slipped my mind, they are a great pellet, I just don’t shoot them that much for 20 yrd plinking or targets, don’t need the weight for that. I’ll use them for hunting for sure.
At RiffRaff… I’m willing to bet you group better at longer distances with the Kodiaks because of their weight. Heavier pellets hold their trajectory better downrange.
On the other hand, here’s a pellet that I will stay away from, don’t care how cheap they are. The Daisy .22 “Precision Max” pellets. Think they are about $2.99 for a 250 tin. I got some at Walmart when I ran out of my other ones. I started going thru every pellet, discarding the worse ones, just threw them away. Some of them looked like someone tried to squeeze the skirt shut with pliers or something. Just took a pic of one, shown here, skirt end up. Don’t see much “Precision Max” here.
