Q:

What’s a good setup for .25?

I’ve got a Talon Stubby with the R&L Hi-Flo valve in .22 that’s running JSB 18.1 with the power wheel set at 2 (IIRC) that is running 33 fpe.

I tried a .25 barrel with this once, a 12″ so fit my shroud and it only ran about 43 fpe or so. How much power increase would I see at a 18″ barrel length with this valve? How about 24″? Walther barrels?

I would hunt some but mainly it would be used for the new long range small bore airgun matches that we’re planning. So the ammo I would be using for this would be of a standard wasp waist design, although the ability to shoot some of Jerry’s slugs would be beneficial for hunting if possible.

Thanks

Paul

That’s pretty cool. I think I’ll look for a barrel.

Everyone recommend Lothar Walther barrels?

I have the standard hi-flo valve, the RL should give at least a modest gain over what I get.

My gun:
22″ non-choked barrel. Speeds are almost identical to before I shortened it.
Nitrogen charged.
75-ish grain brass hammer, all else stock.
27.8 gr Benji at 1020 fps
31 gr Kodiaks at 965 fps.
43 gr EJ at 880 fps.

With the 17″ barrel, subtract about 50 or so fps each pellet, a little more for the EJ. I run out of barrel before they can build speed.

That should give you a good approximation.
