Q:

What scope magnification do you shoot at?

Just wondering what magnification you guys that get 1/2 inch groups shoot at. I’ve seen some of you with 24x scopes and I’m sure thats gotta help with the groupings….

I’ve been shooting 50 yards with my 4-16x set at 6x and getting groups where if I put a dime in the middle, the holes are on the outter edge of the dime. Thats not bad, right?

At what power do you guys that shoot mice and rats and birds shoot? I just thought it would be interesting to see what others prefer.

I’m torn between zooming in more to have more granularity on where I hit the bird vs. not having much field of view (which has proven to be nice for bird hunting). Zooming in more changes eye relief, etc, I just dont know if the increase in resolving power is worth more work lining up a target….

5-15 5 for hunting 15 for target
6-24 6 for hunting 24 for target
2.5-10 2.5 hunting 10 target
i prefer low mag hunting, and high mag bench resting

12 is my favorite for both targets and game.

I have 3~12 mag. 12X for paper punching, 5X for game.

With my 5-15, I find myself always coming back to 12x magnification.

With my 8-32x, I shoot at 32 for targets, and 8 for hunting. Don’t really use anything in the middle too much.

For shooting groups I zoom in as far as the scope allows for the available light and then back it off a little. I usually end up around 28-30X on the gun that can go that high and about 2x less than max on the others.

I shoot at 10X for when I need to kill stuff or am just shooting for regular groups, and I crank the magnification up to 24X if I am shooting from a rest and going for tighter groups, and 50X if I am feeling angry, lol.

x24 is good for revealing more accurately how much your muzzle is wandering, so I guess that helps with groups. I’ve not actually shot anything yet with my new uber-mag scope, but for the aforementioned reason I’ll be trying it for long-range (75+yds) shots.
