What type of compound for top hat polishing
I was wondering what is the best type of polish to use on my top hat valve?
Around here we don’t have an all purpose polish, at least not one that I’ve found. The polish that we have is broken down by metal types

FYI, a long time ago I learned to not use regular steel wool to clean up stainless steel.
Regular steel wool can leave residue embedded in the surface of stainless steel and will rust.
You can buy “0000” Stainless Steel Wool at hardware stores and avoid any such problem 💡
After I used the steel wool (which I did find a little polishing compound that came with my dremel used very sparingly) I used a q-tip to get any residual stuff out of the inside of the top hat and used a clean cloth from an old t shirt to wipe down the body of the top hat my only regret is not taking any before and after pics

So, I got her all nice and cleaned up. I ended up using some extra fine steel wool (the kind used for shining up metals) and my drill I locked the top hat into the drill and just worked my way up and down until clean then I took a little steel wool and put it on the smooth end of a dremel and slid it in and out while running the drill. It looks nice and clean

I was rebuilding a Harley and I wanted to polish some alum and steel parts on it. I tried ALL of the polishes that I could buy and I even tried wet sanding the parts with successively finer wet or dry sandpaper grits ending up with 4000 grit.

Buy the polish and the sealer both; you will be amazed with how well it works! I have turned all of my HD ridin buddies onto it and they all love it!
I polished the alum parts on my HD 7 years ago and then put the sealer on them. The instructions say to put the sealer on every 6 months to a year. You just put some sealer on a clean rag and wipe it on. I have reapplied the sealer once in the last 7 years and the alum still shines/looks like a chrome part!
You can actually use a flat part for a mirror.
When I crown or cut an in lead on a barrel, I finish it up with a felt cone in a Dremmel and Metal Gloss. I love the way the cut ends up shining!
I will guarantee that you will love this stuff! If you don’t, let me know as my original bottle of the polish is about empty and, if you don’t love it, I will buy it off of you and pay for shipping! The stuff is that good!
Also in a pinch your top hat can be swished around the mouth before kissing lol but it is a good idea

When all else fails don’t forget about the tooth paste in your medicine cabinet. Makes great polishing compound.

Well it’s a good thing you guys gave me a few other ideas.
Even trying to find JB paste at any sportsman shop is proving to be more than a little pain in the ass, as in nobody has it in stock (big box as well as the mom and pop shops are out).
That saves me from trying to order it and wait for it to come

A simple Brillo Pad does a real nice job..
Put TH on a drill bit, add a little water, spin in drill to polish
I use Flitz from Ace Hardware, best stuff I have used in a long time.

I USE PEEK. It”s an all purpose polishing compound. I think it is only available in Canada. I special ordered it .
