Your best bet is to enter the numbers in Hawke Chairgun Pro and look at
the trajectory and see what zero point will best fit the hunting you are
going to do whether it is long range or short or both…..Ideally I would
thing you would want to use the full range of the reticle especially if you
are using mildot….You want to set a zero that would put the top of the
trajectory on the top mildot..That would cover close and far range….

Here’s a interesting post from the Air Arms Owners Club from the UK.

What range with a sub 12 ft/lb

The distance that you’ll likely be shooting at more often than not.

^^^^^^^ Spot on!!

The distance that you’ll likely be shooting at more often than not.

for me it would depend in the following

1. what is your typical hunting range
2. what is the flight of your pellet like

when a pellet leaves your barrel it will climb upwards before gravity grabs hold of it and pulls it back down to earth.

so, if you ‘0’ at 10 yards you will have another ‘0’ at about 25 yards or so but that depends on how heavy your pellet is, heavy ones fall quicker.

with in reason you can move these ‘0’s along a bit until both meet at the highest point of the pellets flight.

to say to you ‘0’ at 15 yards might not sound like a good idea but try it out and when you are ‘0’ed take a shot at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 yards and you will see two clear ‘0’s.

your kill zone will be almost x on for most of your shots.out to about 5 yards after the 2nd zero. your pellet will be falling hard at this point.

hope this has helped.

the lats comment about 177 and 12fpe. if you can get enough power behind a 22 pellet you can get the same flight path of a 177 but with a hell of a lot more knock down power.

Get a copy of ChairGun and put in the velocity and pellet information and it will give you a more accurate answer. It really depends mostly on the velocity you are shooting at, not the total FPE.

This under 12ftlb thing, makes it better to have a .177 right?
I am lucky get as many ftlb as possible!

don’t really understand what you mean or the point of what your saying .177 is better at some things compared to .22 and why are you lucky to have as much flb as you like? i need to know from people what’s the best range to scope at with my gun not .177?

thanks anyway

Works for me anyway.

sounds good thanks im scoped at 25y but think iv got to get too close to the quarry when stalking to get a good shot as iv not worked out my scope recitals yet will do soon though

.22 25 yds
.177 35yds

Works for me anyway.
