Q:

Whats the grey squirrel head size?

Does any one know the average grey squirrel head size? or should I say length. 50-55mm or around 2 inches?

Trying to practice distance ranging and the head is the only constant to me (tail is alway moving everywhere).

Maybe 1″ by 1.25″ from the side. Less front or back. Under 40-50 yards I normally do head shots. Depends on what is exposed. Sometimes a body shot.

I nail hundreds of the tree rats every year. Practice w/ a one-inch target and plan on body shots if you’re using a .22-.25. Too easy to miss the head at different ranges. About 20% of the ones killed have had head shots, but that’s mostly because the head was peeking over a branch/around a tree, nothing else to target. Chest shots work best, most pcps in the .22+ category will blow through arm/shoulder bones.

Then divide that by eight to get an idea of the size of the boiler room nugget. :biggrinn:

It depends on the magnification of your scope.

It’s about a 1.5″ kill zone.
