Where do you get your Scuba filled in Northern NJ/Lower NY?
I went to the closest Scuba shop (in Middletown, NY) about 30min. from my house, and they said you have to be a certified diver to get your tank filled. I then went to a local Paintball shop 10min. from my house and they said they can only fill up to 88ci (PB small tanks) and they are not equipped to fill scuba tanks. They told me over the phone they could fill my 88cf tank but they apologized and thought I was talking about 88cu. inches! They wouldn’t be able to do it anyway because they had a female foster connector on those big tanks and nothing that would go on a scuba.
So now I don’t know where to go to get my tank filled. I live in NY but work in North Jersey so I hope some of you are from this area.

I use a local VOLUNTEER fire dept. The city depts are too liability conscious. If you get lucky like I did a couple guys there will be hunters or divers. I took my gun the second time i went and let a couple of the guys shoot it. Impressed they were and I have an easy source of air. Wouldn’t even let me pay for the fills so I put 10 bucks in their refrigerator coke fund.
You got Sports Chalets out there? They’ll also just have you sign a waiver everytime they fill. If you have them, maybe there’s one closer to you than the dive shop you’re going to now?
My local Dive store just fills it up no problem, no waiver and just comments about how well I look after my tank every time I take it in. He is aware its for Airgun’s because he said “this isn’t for diving is it” the first time I took it there.
Thanks guys. I found another shop about 1/2hr away.
I called them and the owner said the same thing you did. He doesn’t need a diving certification as long as the tank will not be used for diving. He said to write “For Paintball use” on the tank and then he ‘ll fill it. He said he could get in trouble with his insurance company if I used the tank for diving and there was an accident. He didn’t mention anything about a liability waiver but said he does a lot of business with Paintball gun & airgun owners, so I think I found my shop. Wish it were closer though. I ‘ll keep looking.
The other 2 shops didn’t care when I said the tank is to fill up airguns. They didn’t want anything to do with me.

Yes, as Lang says, get a hand pump. Really easy to top off your tank (i only shoot till the tank is at about 2600) 50 pumps and 5 mins later you are back to 3000 psi 😀
SCUBA shops are worried about somebody having an accident while ‘using their air’ and suing (as is all too common these days IMO). You might try printing out Airhog’s already proven Liability Waver and showing it to them:

It’s not that they don’t want your business, they just don’t want the risk.

This is true if you intend on using the tank for SCUBA. Most dive shops will fill a tank for “other then SCUBA” but require that you sign a waiver of liability stating so. Ask if they’ll do that for ya?
Best thing would be to get a pump and save yourself all that aggro.

I was going to call my local volunteer fire dept. on Monday. I ‘ve had their ph# since yesterday after my disappointment with the 2 dive shops, but I didn’t want to call them on the wknd. I used to know a couple of volunteer firemen a long time ago but I moved out of that area (40mi. away) 12-13yrs ago and have not kept in touch. It always helps to know one! They used to invite me drinking (for free) at the firehouse all the time. Man they had a nice bar with a huge TV and even the Playboy channel, video games, pool table, etc. 😀 We ‘d cook hamburgers, or much on snacks.. They had their own walk-in refrigerator stocked with food and beer all the time. I really enjoyed going there and was always looking forward to it. These guys had keys to the firehouse so we could go any time – any hour of the day. Many times we went over there after the bars closed at 4am. These guys could drink!
