If you wanted to remove it without damaging the black finish I know that you can use sugar cubes to remove the painted on writing. You use the cube like a mini sanding block. Its hard enough to cut into the paint but soft enough not to damage the underlying finish.
It works great on cell phones where you want to remove the sometimes large and gaudy carrier logo from the front of your phone.
As with anything of this nature, test it on a spot that you wouldnt see first. Like under the grip, fore grip or trigger plate.
