Q:

Who’s got Micrometer tank experiences

Looking for caliber, pellet weight, barrel length, fps, & number of shots/tank. I see Airforce has recently changed their advertising from 200+ shots to “well over a 100 powerful shots”.

I currently have a stock TSS (except for 18″ barrel and FE) shooting about 28fpe on PW 5 1/2 on HPA with about 50 on POI shots per tank. Any lower than that and the fps gets eratic. I can shoot the gun on CO2 and get 14-15fpe in the summer (and 600+shots per fill). Looking to see what Micrometer Tank can do; not modify the hammer/tophat for any particular fps.

Help me out here Synopsis. I think you are trying for ~ 20fpe to comply for FT, but a high/low with that big of range can’t be good for FT. Just extrapolating, looks like around 60 shots down to the 2000-2200 psi range (mine does 50 at 900 fps with a variation of about 15 fps, but if I turn down the PW lower than 5 8/16, the variation goes way up!). Am I missing something here on the shot count or consistency? What do you do with the PW, etc when you shoot in a FT match?

My memory says my 12 inch .177 barrel did 900 fps with 10.6 g pellets with about the same consistency/shot count as my 18″ does 15.9 g pellets.

Yes, I have the full .110 top hat. Finally set it that way to get more consistent velocity from full to time to refill.

Really? Hmm maybe that is why I never received a response…. 😆

TH= 0.061
Barrel 18″ 0.177cal
10.5 grain pellet
PW- 0/12
Talon tank

Average velocity=935 fps
average energy 20.5 ft/lbs

lo 808 fps
hi 986 fps

Shot count: 20
starting psi=3000
ending psi=2700

15psi per shot

temp 25.5c
pressure 1020HpA
45% humidity

Synopsis said: Take a look at this, it has the psi per shot and the tophat settings… I set my TalonSS up for lots of shots per fill for FT practice.

I checked it out, but the template didn’t show up???

I have no first hand experience. However another gent who had one sent his back. He basically said you could tune your own better than what the M.M. tank was able to do.

I,ve only used my mm tank like ten shots, I have the th set at.055 and I,m getting anywhere between 630 to 670, playing with the pw, its a very consistant 650ish mid range, this is a .177, 12 in. barrel, firing 8.2 grn. pellets.

I think, if your tophat was set at the factory you may have too much gap and when your power wheel is set really low it no longer lowers the velocity.

Before adjusting the tophat I was using three times the air for each shot… Mine came set ay 0.110″ from the factory.

Bought another tank from Midway last week and it was set at 0.075″ from the factory. I guess they set the tophats correctly when just selling the tank. But when they set up a rifle they extend the tophat to meet the breach without any play…

are worried about peer pressure relative to the other options?

I haven’t had much luck with lower power settings (below say 5) on HPA. I start getting eratic fps and some “misfires”. I haven’t tried lower fill pressures, but am not necessarily looking for less power, just (a lot) more shots per fill. The 0 PW setting on Co2 works great.

I too am considering a Micro tank, but found out that their main reason for existence is to comply with the European standard of under 12fp air pressure in the “Stealth” Airforce guns.

It was suggested to me to just save my money and try the power wheel on 0 and a fill of 1400 psi, then experiment from there.

Thanks Jaybirdo, I was aware of that thread (in fact I posted on it!). Anyhow, I have CO2 adapters and they rock on Talons. My 24″ barrel one does 17fpe on CO2 (but not in the winter outside). Regulated tanks look good, but have ergonomic and possibly reliability issues (I’m thinking that is improving on the newer stuff). Also, they would require a separate fill adapter/hose. Micrometer tanks don’t have those problems, so I thought I would see what people had to say about their experience with Micrometer tanks as far as performance and shot count……

Microtank isn’t doing all that great because people have the CO2 adaptor, which was either free or at least, cheap. Guys are putting HPA paintball tanks with regulators on theirt CO2 adaptors, for cheap, and are able to shoot at low power and high shot count as they wish, check this link out:

I shopped for a microtank, and then lost interest.
