why cant i use heavie pellets in…
in a springer?
my gamo 1250 extreme (30 ft lbs it was tuned and modded by rich in mich)
is coming tomorrow
i made an order of a bunch of pellets from pa
well i was told not to shoot the 28 grain eunjins in the gun it will wear out the spring?
i also ordered JSB monsters(25 grains)
can i use the monsters? are they too heavy
why will a heavie pellet wear out the spring?
i also ordered jsb exacts 18 grains, i have a couple kodiaks i need to order some more when pa gets em instock
and i ordered some polymags

Disregarding premature spring failure, it doesnt matter if you use a Gas Ram or not, the reason you’ll find heavy will not be ideal in a springer (or gas ram for that matter) is that your velocity will drop like a rock.
In my RWS 54, Premier 14.3gr will shoot at around 800fps. Eun Jins? Around 530fps.
With PCP’s, you generally get HIGHER fpe using heavier pellets; with springers and gas rams, you generally get LOWER fpe using the heavy stuff.
….heavy ammunition will also really change the firing cycle on a springer/gas ram.
If your gun is .22 and shooting in the 14-30fpe range, you’re going to do far better with pellets in the 14.3-16gr range. If it’s at the higher end of the velocity spread, you may even be able to get away with up to 21gr…. but you’ll find a very loopy trajectory.
Dont think when you get it converted you’ll do any better with heavy pellets…just the nature of the beast.

Hey, I’m not talking about detonation here! The spring can shoot the Gamo just as God and Cardew intended. The Gamo then compresses a mixture of fuel and air inside the barrel (not the compression tube) that accelerates the secondary projectile.
I’m pretty sure I could pack C4 in a springer barrel and not hurt it. In fact, if I can find some det cord…. 😆
Now, if I had NASA’s resources, I’d be looking for some hydrogen and a way to heat the barrel…
Heavy pellets will cause a spring in the springer to break, so saith the airgun gurus.
That is why you buy a gas ram. Years ago I broke many a spring using heavies in an R1 and RWS 45 and that sucked. If get another springer I would love to have a BSA with a gas ram.
If you get a big rainbow trajectory with those big pellets then use a mildot scope and aim higher 😀
before i knew any better, i was 12 and had a china springer rated at 800fps. well i oiled the gun with wd40 and discovered detination, it was great my grandpa always wondered where all the wd40 went. the gun lasted threw quite a few cans of oil but after a while the gun just wore out, 500 pellets a weekend for several years, it was my first springer.
To light the fire again, here’s an idea:
Take a Eun Jin pellet and push it half way down the bore. Now take a can of starting fluid and squirt some ether in behind the heavy pellet. Now load a Gamo Raptor, aim and fire. The spring gets the Raptor up to Mach 1.2 and that compresses the air and ether behind the Eun Jin to auto ignition temperature. The Eun Jin heads out at huge velocity and ….well who cares where the Raptor ends up?

I would be a liar if I said I have never done it. As a young teenager I tried dunking pellets in diesel before loading them into an old springer 😆

I swabbed my barrel with plain ole gun
oil before storage and I think that was
the culprit. Never had a prob with a few
drops of the stuffin a tin of jsbs. Mighty
powerful detonation though.
