Why does it take so long? This is why
No CNC here each one is cut on my minimill with me often turning a crank like a monkey grinder…lol
These went out today and I hope you guys like them. It is a lot of work, many hours but I am pretty happy with them.
They are of 6061 aluminum, given a baked on powder coat finish which is very tough an have stainless steel hardware as well.

I would love to get a bigger mill but just not have the room for it or the ability to move it.
Once I get the idea I want I make a prototype. From there I set up on the mill and do each piece in stages.
When I get people asking “Are they almost done yet?” I just smile and tell them they are being worked on. Most people have no idea how long it takes but thats OK they are happy when they do get them.
You must love it though. There is no way I would crank out (literally) more than a couple ot those without some automation. I use Mastercam and a vertical machining center with a 24 tool changer and it still takes a lot of time. The upside is once that nitnoy stuff is done you can run easily.

No kidding. But I do not have months to fool around trying to convert mine to CNC and all the extras needed to buy and learn.
I got things to make and it seems to get a CNC up and running on these machines takes a loooooong time.
Just get another (and bigger) mill – cutting speed of a CNC conversion on the Mini Mill would suck for you anyway.

CNC takes forever making smaller parts than that and all I gotta do is stand there and watch…. screw doing that kind of stuff for manually, lol
