Why Hunt?
Firstly let me say, the intention of the post is pure curiosity and nothing more.
I see a lot of videos of people shooting “yote”, ground hogs racoon’s and other similar animals and I’m just curious as to why?
As I don’t have these animals around where I live I don’t know the nuisance they pose so have no real appreciation. I personally would only kill what I intended to eat or as mentioned if it was a nuisance to me.
One of my dreams is to one day hunt and kill a Big buck and to share and enjoy the meat that animal will provide but I couldn’t ever shoot an animal with no intention, that just me!
So anyways Id love too hear your opinions on the topic and also any cool hunting story’s would be awesome!

Mebee because we are apex predators. We’re not that far removed from the cavemen we evolved from. (Some more than others of course)

I recon its in us all to hunt and kill stuff.
All this wishy washy “just be nice to each other” wouldn’t’ve got us out of the caves. We’re a violent animal by nature.
That said. I think its time to go hunting. For ciders 😆

I hunt coyotes, fox, raccoon and squirrels because, well I like to hunt.
but more importantly for these animals, they are a HUGE problem in Maine. The coyote and squirrel, porcupine and one other I forget have no closed season in Maine, they are considered so bad.
the Coyotes have thinned out the Deer heard up northern Maine, They attack and kill farm animals to the point that it’s not uncommon to have farms put bounties out on them. and it’s not uncommon to hear that a pack of coyotes kill family pets, even large dogs aren’t equal to a hunting pack of coyotes. A couple of years back a fox killed some of my neighbors chickens, a pet cat of another neighbor and one of my cats. needless to say time was short for that fox, and within a couple of weeks my neighbor killed it trying to get at his chickens again.
I don’t believe in catch and release, because you’re just transferring your problem to being someone else’s problem who lives near where your releasing the animal.
As far as fishing and deer hunting, it’s to put food on the table.
I’ve hunted and fished all my life. I eat what I kill/catch. That said, there are critters that devastate your garden, destroy the inside of you house, car, truck, boat, etc., threaten your animals, chew/peck holes in your eaves to make nests, eat wiring in our house, are diseased………… These critters need to go! :4: :5: :1: :13: :12: :16: :6:
It is a skill that can be utilized to keep you and your family alive and safe if the need arises.
It goes along with,
Building shelter
Starting a fire
Cooking
reading a compass
finding water
etc.

Why Hunt?
Simple answer, because I live in America.
Why hunt deer? Venison is good eating.
Why hunt wild hogs? Same as above.
Why hunt squirrels? Good eating and to stop the damn things from destroying my bird feeders.
Why hunt raccoons? To stop the damn things from destroying my bird feeders.
Why hunt skunks? To stop the damn things from spraying my dog.
