oxygen is interesting, it usually takes oil or rubber from an oring to get it started but once it is it can oxidize the metal and burn it for fuel. like when you use a cutting torch most of the heat is from the metal oxidizing. that is why it takes forever to get it started, but after it is it goes a lot faster. when i was learning how to use a torch my uncle told me you could cut metal with just oxygen. so i tryed it, if you start cutting, you can slowly turn of the acytaline sp? and contiue with just oxygen. try it sometime it does work but hard because you have to be real steady and have to use thicker metal to hold the heat.
ANY combustable material that is on Any seal that is indroduced to very high pressure oxygen will ignite. Great heat is generated as the material compresses, add a very combustable gas and BOOM 😯
I used to look after all the medical gases for a district hospital, and the guys who used to deliver the bulk oxygen supplies had some very scary stories!
Anyone who uses a volitile gas in an airgun is simply speeding up the natural selection process!!
I work in industrial maintenance and have seen this occur when a fellow employee used wd40 (only on a rag )to lube the fittings on an oxy acetylene burn table.The hoses are notoriously hard to push on.Upon lighting the 5 torches all but one were immediatley melted off the ends of the connectors.The 5th one wasn’t readily found as the valve was off and it exploded instantly.Not an airgun but oxy and oil.
Its been known for years that oxygen and some oils do not mix.
Thats why you must use a special regulator for oxygen tanks; they were made correctly so you wont blow up.

I don’t think it was all oil burning. It was probably there at the start, but the first bit that burned (probably lit by the heat of compression) burned very fast for sure, driving the pressure up. Which in turn caused a seal to fail (or it would have blown up like a pipe bomb), releasing lots of oxygen with lots of heat. This burned the metal, just like a cutting torch does. In the classic ‘Victor Wrench’ (gas cutting torch) the steel burns when you hit the toggle and flood the area with oxygen at low pressure, here we have high pressure and more fun.
Notice there is metal missing, but no sign of lumps of molten metal? I think it burned away. Left as Iron oxide and aluminum oxide and lots and lots of heat. Not a good thing to be standing over (as we so often are filling guns). No way to stop it, until it ‘runs out of gas’ as it were…
I don’t doubt it’s real a bit. “Use no oil” is on those gauges for a reason….

Dont think someone like that should even have a bb gun let alone a air rifle, or probably any weapon what so ever, the carelessness of people like that over here make air gun laws even worse. What a plonker 🙄
Oh thats not the half of it. You should see the picture of the guy who used Oxygen in his rapid. It blew the gun up and a huge chunk out of the block wall he was shooting off of.

I’ve heard of dieseling in Springer’s with just plain air and the wrong oil.
Oxygen on its own is an oxidizer requiring a fuel to burn.
The air tank must have had a lot of residual oil to produce that kind of heat.
I’m from Missouri on this one. Have to see to believe.
Doubtful of the author and his creditability on the subject as well.
