Q:

Will this Oring design work?Brass/Alu 6061 strong enough4?

So i’ve redesigned the interior so that it uses small thread, hence MUCH thicker walls. Won’t sacrifice volume since theres a CO2 tank just for that!

–Hey guys, Pressure i’m intending my valve for is Co2 (~800psi Nominal)

Is brass or aluminium enough for the valve body parts? (of course poppet/bolt thing is sSteel 316)

They’re much easier to Machine compared to steel.

Even more, i’d really like to use aluminum since brass is much heavier.
is Aluminium suitable??

All valves (pneumatic industry or rifles) seems to not use aluminium is that because Aluminum isn’t suitable in some way? corrosion or..?

Your experience is greatly appreciented thanks in advance!

P.S. if brass, which brass alloy? or spec?

also, crazy thought, i like making the bore of the bolt as big as possible (lathin and structural strength taken into consideration), how is T.Carbide materials for this piece? (i can buy a fat drill bit stock) is it to0 hard to machine (big bore will require thin wall which may be difficult to even make?) is it brittle? or .. ? =)[/img]

Hey guys, i havnt worked metal b4 (or any other material) so im having some technical probs.

i’ve turned out the whole valve assembly so far (havn’t threaded them yet, just googled how to lathe the threads 10min ago, will do that later.)

The problem is putting those holes on the valve stem(probe? poppet?)

here are some pics



stems are “smoothed” by running a million passes along back and forth with sharp tool thing on the lathe. feels very smooth, shouldn’t be a problem right?

yea, “edge past oring” is the solution =), just wanted to be lazy. i’ve actually finalised with a different (again..) valve structure. prolly take some photos of it wen i turn it out

if you make the delin seal right , and tight , then you wont need the oring behind it , id think it would get squished fast with the presure on it always . maybe make the delrin with a edge that goes past the oring and doesnt alow the oring to be squished .?

yea, i’ll proly do that. 1 oring at the base of the lip of the insert.
i’m currently working on an even simpler design.

my goal’s to design all parts of the gun to the most basic shape, without sacrificing performance. i’ll post them here and ppl can validate them and make them urself

originally i had 2 orings in the design, one at the front to seal the delrin insert, and a second at the rear to seal the stem.

Hey Dude.
Regarding the O ring mod in the origonal question.
It does work. but. You’ll have to contain the seal inside the delrin insert.
In the drawing it looks as if the insert is just resting on the O ring. Under pressure it will compress the O ring and jam the stem tight shut.
If you can make the delrin in a of cup shape and put the O ring inside it, it will work fine.
Also dont be tempted as i was to use two O rings toghether. I thaught the space between them would act as a reservoir for grease as an O ring is really only a static or rotary seal.
If you want any lube use X ring seals.
They’re the future.

Hey voltar, widow has also commented about the co2 being right there. I haven’t made my self clear i guess, heres an illustration. (btw i’ll do a draft drawing of it soon so theres all dims)

I’ve turned out components b4 (some of you have seen an earlier post by me). and i’m really not good at it. SO i’m trying to design as simple as possible without affecting performance.

btw, thanks for the Modelling comment! haha its actually my Food source, i’d gladly help anyone “visualize” their next project.
They can look a lot better if ya set the rendering settings higher 😉

trigger may give you trouble as drawn. pulling the trigger will move the hammer due to the angles and so hammer spring load is on the trigger.
Could you go to a linkage system to move the grip and trigger back? to help with LOP issues?

Valve body ‘looks’ to be adequate and definitely so for CO2 would you have all dims for the cross section?

CO2 feed….. if’n it was me I would build the expansion reservoir and feed the CO2 into the butt end away from the firing valve. Less liquid would make it to the barrel and less chilling around the valve body.

Interesting concept and I like where you are headed for sure!

You seem on good way, I was just curious as all co2 I have seen have expension chamber but I don’t know anything about liquid CO2 setups. looks good otherwise. keep posting

Widow, the CO2 picture is only to serve as a “valve volume” thing

a discharge reservior pretty much. a little excessive, but i’m planning to push down .50’s down a 1m(max) barrel.

the actual co2 tank is remoted from the front, this is the one with liquid co2

Very interesting, I will leave it to Voltar1 to give us the specs tolerence but I do have one question, from your design are you planning to draw the CO2 straight from the tank for each shot as I don’t see a regulated chamber? With no chamber and only one seal you may risk the tank will empty it self if the seal gets damaged or warn out.

labeled 1 is the main concern being the exterior body.

I’ve got another problem right now, its the length of the pull of the rifle.
with a 12OZ co2 res (i really wanna try a large res see wot it does)
i have 450mm pull!

so im thinking of building a small res with ss316. is 32 O.D. pipe with 2.5mm wall strong enough for co2?

I must admit to prior knowledge lol my schooling is in Instrumentation and pressure, area etc is the life blood of that trade 🙂 as it is used to convert all manner of measurement into the basics of P*A= Force

Now if you would be so kind as to teach me how to make a monster flowing quickly closing valve………………………
and get the beautiful finish on the parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need a pic as well as I have no clue what kind of valve he is building nor where the stresses occur.

BTW volume is not the source of stresses it is just pressure acting on an area.

Think it all comes down to the outer dimension of the body , wall thickness and the volume of pressurized air in the body ie, my valve body will be 16mm with a 10mm hole and therefore low volume .
