Q:

Winchester Super Grade Help Needed

Hi Lads,

I need your help, I need to draw on the collective knowledge thats out there.

I bought a Winchester Super Grade 12ga last week, got it really cheap from a friend. It was probably built in late 70s, maybe earrly eighties, I love this gun, it handles beautifully, balance is perfect for me.

Anyway got to try it out in the field, a small problem developed, the mechanism that cocks the firing hammers is operated by sort of a push rod in the forestock. When you break the gun it sets the hammers. the face of the push rod has worn over time and sometimes does not cock the hammers.

I took off the fore stock and fitted a shim with glue to the face of the push rod. Gun operated fine till it ate the shim.

I can’t be the only one that this has happened to? Can anyone point me in the direction of any where that I can get a replacement part, (Winchester 101 Super Grade), or am I pissing in the wind, so to speak, as the factory has closed and they are a bit rare anyway.

This is the worn part- the bit sticking out ❗

This is how it is fixed to the forestock- it a separate part to the main body

Any help would be greatly appreciated, ideal situation would be to find a genuine replacement part/ copy.

Please help, I want to get this gun right as it is a keeper.

you get your spares/repair part?

Thanks a lot for the help lads, its great.

Pulled a blank looking for any info over here.

Looking at both sites now, one emailed me back and they have the part 😀 , $69.99, also I think I’ll get the spares kit while I ‘am at it, It would be good karma to have a spare spring set. These things havee a habit of not breaking when you have a new one on the shelf 😆

Thanks

think this gun is worth a lot more than 300.00. they were made in japan try 1000.00 or so depending on model condition etc.

Try these guys, they have tons of parts, and a good reputation also:
http://www.gunpartscorp.com/

here’s one for sale, to give you an idea what you have:

http://www.scheelssports.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=12101&categoryId=37666&productId=72029&productName=Winchester+101

The link to Midwest appears to be your best bet for a replacement part. or may be able to have a gunsmith “build up” and reshape the original in your gun.

Good luck and nice shooting iron u got there.

Thanks Sharp,

It is a Winchester 101 Super Grade 12ga K3684**, I would love to get the original parts rather than have them copied.

I guess its worth the $300 i paid ❓ Second hand in need of slight repair 😉 .

Thanks,

Eamonn

locate a model number and I’ll try to find the part, I have several sources on old gun parts.

Looks like an old model 101. try these folks for parts:

Also, from what I have seen this morning, consider having the gun appraised by a reliable appraiser, appears some of those models are highly sought after by collectors at a substantial price tag.
