Winter Condor project feedback please
Okay I have had tuned my Condor to shoot very well at 2400 psi (thanks Walter) both .22 and .25 shoot excellent out to 120 yards but I want a little more.
I have decided to leave the .22 LW barrel alone at 24″ however this what I have in mind for the .25 barrel and the Condor.
1. Chop/machine the LW .25 Polygonal barrel down to 19″ (breech end).
2. Build a baffled frame extender that matches Condor frame appearance and finish.
3. Vent the front barrel bushings.
4. Replace the 490cc tank with a 800cc tank.
5. Install one of Jim’s quick fill/gauge valve adapters.
6. Install a Leupy customer barrel sliding hammer/spring.
So do you think I will still get decent .25 JSB Monster pellet performance with a 19″ barrel?

Randy I just got my 16″ .25 caliber and will be putting a 90 gram hammer on it this week. I’ll give you some real numbers soon 🙂

Just got off the phone with JDS airman and yes he will not carry 53cu.in. bottles anymore.

I just checkd JDS Air man website and I couldn’t see 53 cu.in. bottles for sale anymore. I wrote him an e-mail and waiting the reply if he still has them.
Any idea where else I can buy one of these bottles in case he doesn’t have them?
I was thinking of 14″ on my barrel, to keep the length down. This was based on Pulaskius experience with a 13.5″ barrel. But you need a tricked out valve to hit the fps/fpe he is getting.
Wok advised 16″ and this is what I did, based on a compromise between max fps/fpe and still keep the overall length as short as possible.
Unlike powder burners, barrel length does not make the difference you would expect in a longer barrel. It seems proper valve adjustment, hammer weight, top hat adjustment, and determining the proper fill psi are the real keys to performance for the distances we shoot.
Still, we are reaching out to 100 meters, and even more, with a .25 in a short barrel. Now that’s impressive. You just have to find out what works in PCP, vs. powder burners, to get the effect you desire.
Another phenomonon is a 3000 psi fill can actually reduce your fps. Now that just seems contrary to the laws of physics, but it has proven to be true. There is a magic balance in each setup that will be determined through trial and error what psi fill will work best for your rifle. From what I’ve read, 2500 to 2700 seem to be working for several people. Some have gone less psi to achieve even better accuracy.
Lots of reasons for this, and I don’t fullly understand all of them, I just have read where and how they work for others.

I have always wondered about these barrel sliding hammers … no data that I have seen yet … but the concept bothers me when it comes to accuracy.
Barrel harmonics .. vibrations … consistency of those things shot to shot … I would really like to test one compared to a frame riding hammer to see what happens 😀

The reason John from JDS stop selling them because, as he explained to me on the phone yestoday, he couldn’t sell them well. He had them in stock for a while and people were not buying them as wel as others.
I guess, that’s it.
But it is funny how people started to look for them after he stoped selling these bottles. I saw couple guy on the yellow forum looking for them.
