Q:

Wok Butt problem???

Gentle friends,

In checking stuff over for a trip to the range tomorrow, I think I have found a problem with my Wok Butt (which I otherwise like….).

It is loose on the end of the tank, although the screw is tight. I can tip the bottom end of it back and forth perhaps a 1/4 inch or side to side ten degrees or so. It looks for all the world like the supplied screw is enough longer than the factory screw that it has popped the threaded insert loose and it’s being held in by the rubber cover?

Has anyone else had this happen? Has anyone ever tried to repair this part of the tank?

TIA

Thanks for the prompt response.

I got the cover off (not a fun job…) and found the plastic plate intact, but the t nut loose. It would seem the nut is enough proud that the Wok Butt sits on it’s lip. I cut a bit of the cover away, enough to put a 1/4 inch flat washer on top of the plate so the nut is now well clamped. The screw, while longer, doesn’t seem to be an issue.

Things are still a little loose (the flex in the cover), but not as bad as before.

The cover was easy to get back on after running some hot water over it in the kitchen sink.

Doug,

Chances are your plastic disc that it screws into has broken. The pressed a T-Nut into a rather brittle plastic disc that will break sooner or later even with the stock shoulder piece. You can replace it with a metal one of your making or you can take your broken one and sandwich it between 2 thin layers of metal with epoxy and let it dry.

Then replace it under the cover and snug it up nice and tight.

The bolt should not be to long for that piece and with over 150 Wokbutts out there no problems reported. 😀
