wonder when those .25 RM3 shorts will hit the coast.

I was going to chop my .22 down and make it a short.
I just been to dam busy to do any machining for my self lately.
Also I decide I would let the eddie go. Haven’t sold it yet but it’s for sale
It is in my opinion a false narrative to compare the physics of a firearm to that of a PCP airgun.
So this is my plan. I am going to do a myth buster episode when my short comes.
Keyser, long story short without the need of scientific evidence….
If you own the Long, Standard and Short in the same caliber and set at the same ft/lbs you just hear the difference.
I did not want to compare firearms to PCP airguns but they have at least one thing in common, short is louder than long, just a matter of fact.
You give us all these “Ballistic for Morons” classes and then you don’t know the difference between a long and a short airgun barrel? 😀
But you will tell when you get your shorty….
This is great news…. plz do the good review as you did for STDs….

Thank you, thank you very much!

Dear misguided, syphilitic, short-hangers….
You all miss the point. A Shorty shroud has less volume to expand the air pressure prior to it exiting the shroud with a loud blast.
“Muzzle blast” is directly proportional to the volume of high pressure air instantaneously released from the shroud. Reduce the overall volume/air pressure and sound is proportionally reduced.
This is the reason a 1.5″ diameter 9″ ldc is more effective than a 1.25″ diameter 6″ ldc.
Further, a short barrel requires more air pressure to obtain the same fps/fpe as a longer barrel, a lot more air! Thus, the air blast escaping shorter barrels/shrouds will be louder because there is more air/greater pressure.
Baffles don’t reduce sound, they serve only to slow the air passing through the shroud. It is but one factor in reducing noise. The major effective air pressure (noise) reduction is achieved by volume, volume, volume!
In summary, muzzle blast is decreased by baffles to initially slow the air, small shroud vents to give the high air pressure a first point of controlled release other than the muzzle, and most importantly large shroud volume to allow the remaining air volume to expand and thus reduce it’s overall pressure (muzzle blast) when it leaves the shroud. If the shroud/ldc has some internal absorbing material, sound is further reduced.
I’ve owned several pcp’s with short shrouds in the last eight years. The only way I could make them quieter was to vent the shroud and use a longer ldc.

Pip I did a search and no offense to the posters but I couldn’t find qualitative analysis proving the theory that short is louder given all the other factors are the same.

For sure shorter barrels need more air … the air and the blast has less space/way inside the barrel to achieve the goal on the pellet… if the barrel longer then there will be enough space to work on the pellets and achieve the desired velocity. …the less air needed. …
I have to admit that my damn Shorty Edgun has the same accuracy as my STD at 70 or even just tried 122 meters still same. ..i really impressed on this Shorty. .. i like it very much… as i said im sure she will take the place of my lovely girlfriend STD Edgun. ..
And the BC i got it from the Strelock is working perfectly. . 😯 … i tried at 70 and 122 meter. ..
I advise you guys… to get one of the Shorty Edgun. .. you won’t be regret. .. i feel this one is my real BP…
Well there are several reasons, one is the one you mentioned, the short pushes more air.
For example if you have a short and a long airrifle in the same caliber and you want them both to perform at 30 ft/lbs then the short will need more air/pression to do this due to the shorter barrel.
This topic has already been discussed several times and I think there is a lot of material on TAG that can be found.
Why is a short .22 LR pistol louder than a .22 LR rifle? Same discussion with pb.
No because getting the parts will be will be next to impossible to get. You’re better off putting your current gun up for sale and buying a short .
If you were able going to get the parts (if you are in the USA it ain’t going to happen) Donny’s shroud will not fit above the air tube
Was thinking I would swap the shorty barrel along with the shorty shroud and then attach Donny’s design. That would eliminate the disparity between the shroud and the air tube. Does this sound doable?
I would like someone to explain how the short is louder. Noise comes from the compressed air. The noise reduction comes from the baffles retarding the escaping air. If both have the exact same baffels then how is the gun louder? Does the short push more air?
IMHO the short is the best size for a bullpub.
Have to agree with Keyser that they balance better
and have to agree with Magnificent Uncle :hoot: that they are louder (shorts are always louder).
I think the shorts are better balanced. The moderator is the same length between all the models. There is no significant sound difference between all 3 models . Some people will shoot the short better.
– barrel,
– barrel shell,
– airtube possibly with front plug because of incompatibilities.
:hoot:
Can’t have your Standard air tube sticking out beyond the Shorty shroud! I don’t think it is financially feasible to do this swap, but that’s just me.
Besides, the shorty is loud, gets less shots, and really isn’t that much shorter than the Standard! I’ve owned the Long, Standard, and Short Edguns.
Unless there have been design changes, I didn’t particularly care for the Shorty Edgun. Too many trade-offs when switching form a Standard.

Why bother chopping down your barrels if Shorts are being imported into the country? I wonder when we will see offset moderators again? Truth is it does bring down the sound report with out increasing the length. I think more folks want these mods.
